The Durham, NC Technical Center of Excellence (CoE) interns primarily support one of the six Technical CoE Departments: Process Automation, Deviation Management, Plant Engineering, Site Services, Technical Operations, and Validation Departments.) Interns will work closely with a team of dedicated engineers who strive to understand, monitor, and improve our manufacturing process in order to ensure the world supply. Within the Durham Technical CoE there are opportunities to support day-to-day activities and strategic projects to ensure the Durham Bulk and Formulation/Filling facilities operate Right-First-Time in a cost effective manner. The opportunity requires daily problem solving with other Technical CoE groups, Operations, and Quality. Internship responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Provide technical support to Durham manufacturing -Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve and/or optimize manufacturing processes -Assist lead engineers in trouble shooting and resolution of unplanned events -Respond to requests from manufacturing areas for support -Assist/lead development and implementation of process improvement projects -Author technical documentation -Author and execute protocols to support projects -Assist/lead the statistical analysis of process and protocol data These internship positions provide candidates with great personal/career development, an opportunity to work on projects positively impacting vaccine manufacturing, and a chance to see if Merck is the right company for their long-term career goals. This is a full- time internship position. Housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and must be funded 100% by the student.Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement: -Required: Candidates musthave completed a minimum of two (2) years towards a Bachelors degree in Chemical, Biochemical, Biomedical, Biological, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or other related science)and returning to school in the fall Required Experience and Skills: -Minimum of two (2) years of Engineering, Computer Science, or Science coursework -Available for a duration of 9-12 weeks during May-August 2019 Preferred Experience and Skills: -Candidates with a minimum GPA 3.3 are preferred -Candidates with previous experience in a lab or manufacturing setting -Candidates with pharmaceutical or vaccine manufacturing related experience -Candidates with strong collaboration skills, strong communication skills -Candidates with lean six sigma experience/ knowledge -Candidates with strong project management skills -Candidates with knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) Your role at Merck is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and were counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement.
