    Traveling Filter Press Operator- Central Ohio Metropolitan Environmental Services, Inc. - Hilliard, OH 43026 Position Description The Filter Press Operator operates various specialty dewatering equipment, including mobile filter presses, various types of pumps, dredges and belt presses to treat sludge to create clean water. This work involves various ancillary equipment to support dewatering projects such as air compressor, generator, conveyors, forklift, loader, mixers and different types of pumps. This work is project based, typically one to three months in duration, and requires regular out of town travel throughout the Midwest for up to 35 days at a time, returning home every weekend or every other weekend depending on project and client needs. Customers include utilities, industrial and municipal waste streams. Essential Job Functions * Operates equipment of various sizes and weights in the dewatering process. * Operate trailer-mounted filter press, hydraulic dredges, loaders, belt presses and other equipment such as pumps, dredges, belt presses, air compressor, generator, conveyors, forklift, loader, mixers and different types of pumps. * Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment. * Prioritize safety, is conscientious, dependable and quality-minded. * Willingness to work with a team. * Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards and as assigned by management. * Ability to travel. * Ability to work a varied schedule with overtime hours as needed. Qualifications * Experienced operating field equipment (fork truck, bobcat, mowers, machines or trucks as examples) and some mechanical know-how and skills. * Aptitude to operate big equipment. * Able to pass a drug screening and fitness for duty physical. * Less than 6 points on valid drivers license. Reliable transportation. * Ability to pass safety training exams and follow instructions. * Ability to pass a background check required by both Carylon, Metropolitan Environment Services and customers. Travel Overnight travel within the Midwest to various client worksites is required. Required Education and Experience

    • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. * Experience in construction, farming, forklift experience a plus. * Mechanical aptitude. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervision responsibilities. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Dewatering generally occurs inside a 53 foot-long van trailer, that houses the mobile filter presses. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. Occasionally employee works in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
