Intern - TEM Lab - Date: Aug 27, 2018 Location: Boise, ID, US Req. ID: 123467 Micron Technologys vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life and our commitment to people, innovation, tenacity, collaboration, and customer focus allows us to fulfill our mission to be a global leader in memory and storage solutions. This means conducting business with integrity, accountability, and professionalism while supporting our global community. Micron Analytical transmission electron microscopy (TEM) Lab is part of Corporate Labs under Technology Development (TD) at Micron Headquarters in Boise, Idaho. We have the most advanced TEMs available in the electron microscopy field and state-of-art dual beam focus ion beam (FIB) machines for the preparation of TEM specimens. In addition to closely working with personnel in the analytical TEM Lab, the student will have the opportunity of working with the thin film deposition group in the Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) Section and the X-ray reflection (XRR) group in the Analytical Surface Lab within TD. This intern/Co-op project is: Monitoring ONON Layer Thickness and Uniformity using X-Ray Reflection. This project is designed for students at a Junior or Senior Level majoring in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). The student needs to have knowledge of thermodynamics, kinetics, crystallography and diffraction on or before starting the internship with us. Currently, we characterize the ONON super-lattice using TEM. Each thin oxide and nitride layer in the ONON super-lattice is measured from cross-section view by TEM, which involves preparation of thin specimens, TEM imaging, and measurements from multiple sites for better statistics. The measurements obtained from XRR have statistics effectively built in them. Therefore, the goal of this project is to explore the possibility of using XRR to monitor the periodicity and the uniformity of ONON super-lattices. At the beginning of the internship, we will train the student to prepare cross-sectional TEM specimens using a FIB machine and take images using our corrected TEM. Then, the student needs to analyze and match the measured data sets obtained from XRR and TEM on a set of experimental wafers. During this internship, the student will gain hands-on experience with advanced experimental techniques. In addition, we will also train the student on how to initiate and manage a project by going through different phases of the project, namely: justification, assessment, design of experiments, data analysis/reports and final documentation. We will also expect the student to give progress reports presentations from time to time. At the end of the internship, the student will have better understanding on how to apply the knowledge obtained in school to an industry environment and the constraints to carry out a project in the real world. Boise is the capital city of the State of Idaho. Our city is small enough for you to touch the nature and wild life in less than 30 minutes, but large enough to have all the entertainments a large city can offer. Education: This internship is designed for students at a Junior or Senior Level majoring in Materials Science and Engineering. Candidates must have continued coursework following their internship.
