Responsibilities This position reports to the Payroll Manager/Supervisor and under moderate supervision has the overall responsibility for timely and accurate processing of assigned employee payroll checks including collection, review, input, edit, and verification of payroll data. Also calculates and prepares tax returns, leaves and absences. May assist with Agent commission processing. Enters payroll and/or timecard information for all employees to ensure timely and accurate distribution of payroll checks and/or deposits Resolves payroll issues by researching problems and applying mastery of payroll principles to find solutions. Utilizes HRIS generated audit reports to analyze and maintain the integrity of the payroll system Maintains and applies a current knowledge of all laws and regulations related to payroll taxes, equal rights, wage and hour legislation and Company Policies related to compensation and benefits Prepares federal, state, local, county, Workers Compensation and unemployment tax returns. Process federal, state and local ACH transmissions and check requests as required. Creates pay sheets and download company time for calculation of payroll processing. Runs appropriate queries to balance and verify data with each pay period Reconciles payroll accounts to the general ledger and calculates and maintains records of employee leaves, including short-term disability, long-term disability, work injury and family leaves. Issues checks and maintains records for employee vacation advances Assists with preparation, printing and balancing of W-2s and other fringe benefits Performs other duties as assigned by Management Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalency. Associate degree in business or accounting preferred Zero to three years previous experience processing employee payroll required. Also previous experience using a personal computer and with payroll system required Competencies: Strong PC skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and internal bank software Must have strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to share knowledge and skills with team members and to collaborate with internal and external customers Strong analytical and problem solving skills to resolve problems independently Mastery of payroll business procedures and principles Discretion is essential to work involving sensitive and confidential information Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy in a multi-task environment and provide analytic and administrative support to the payroll functions of the organization Must pay attention to detail and prevent errors which could result in financial loss to the company Ability to work independently, set priorities, using concentration with speed and accuracy to meet deadlines Ability to maintain an acceptable level of attendance in accordance with company and department guidelines.
