    SPECIFIC JOB TITLE: Instructional Designer 

     

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Director for Digital Learning

     

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Instructional Designer is an experienced practitioner in the field of learning design capable of collaborating with faculty from a wide range of disciplines to create high-quality instructional courses in all delivery modes. The instructional designer is able to work effectively in a team-based environment, is dedicated to the delivery of high-quality courses, and is capable of innovative approaches to course design.

     

    The instructional designer contributes to the success of technology-enhanced, online, and face- to-face learning by providing advice and experience to full- and part-time faculty in the use of innovative learning design, educational technology applications, and engaging pedagogy. The instructional designer is capable of producing courses that employ recognized best practices while managing multiple projects of various types. The incumbent in this position is expected to manage design and faculty development projects under the supervision of the assistant director. As part of their professional development, the instructional designer is expected to remain current in learning theories and evolving best practices for course design, pedagogy, technology integration, and faculty development, and is expected to develop expert-level knowledge and experience in one or more specific sub-discipline of the field (academic integrity, service learning, assessment, technology integration, active learning, collaborative learning, micro- credentials, etc.).

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Provide course design and curriculum development support to academic units with complex needs, such as those developing new online programs, addressing accessibility concerns, or exploring competency-based education.
    • Provide instructional design expertise and consultations to full- and part-time faculty across a wide range of disciplines and course delivery modes.
    • Collaborate effectively with faculty and faculty development professionals to achieve outstanding outcomes.
    • Design, develop, and manage faculty development courses and projects for full- and part- time faculty.
    • Administer OLS faculty development offerings, collect data on the efficacy of the development efforts, and make recommendations regarding existing and new initiatives.
    • Continuously advance proficiency in integrating the learning management system and a range of learning technologies to strengthen course design and delivery.
    • Support the design, development, and implementation of high-quality faculty development resources, including workshops, consultation services, and digital resources that meet the evolving needs of full- and part-time faculty.
    • Assist the assistant director in implementing strategic plan initiatives.
    • Possess and maintain knowledge and expertise in emerging learning theories and evolving best practices for course design, pedagogy, and technology integration.
    • Deliver outstanding customer service to all constituencies, protect institutional data and privacy, and deliver excellent solutions and services by following departmental and University policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Support OLS-sponsored projects, initiatives, and programs, as Projects may include faculty development programs, course development initiatives, administrative support initiatives, quality assurance projects, and etc.
    • Work closely with the assistant director of OLS on quality assurance initiatives in technology enhanced courses.
    • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

    • Ability to design and facilitate faculty development programs to include online courses (facilitated and non-facilitated), workshops and other online resources for instructors.
    • Project management skills.
    • Knowledge of the Quality Matters (QM) framework; QM certification perferred.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • This position operates in a professional office environment that utilizes a combination of individual and team-based approaches to achieving outstanding outcomes. the use of standard office equipment, such as personal computers, printers, copy machines, etc. is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; carry work and use controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, communicate effectively.

     

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    • This position is full-time, Monday through Friday and the hours of work are 8:30 m. to 4:30 p.m. To accommodate special events, work hours may be adjusted occasionally, including earlier start and end times, evenings, and weekends.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Master’s degree.
    • Two to three years of experience in instructional design or educational technology supporting college or university faculty in their teaching.
    • Experience working with higher education programs, departments, or institutions to design online and/or hybrid courses, course templates, and/or course standards.
    • Experience working collaboratively and effectively in a team environment.
    • Experience applying learning theories and strategies that support best practices in online and technology-enhanced teaching.
    • Experience with a learning management system (Canvas preferred) and a range of learning technologies.
    • Experience designing and facilitating faculty development programs to include online courses (facilitated and non-facilitated), workshops and other online resources for instructors.
    • Experience managing projects effectively. 
    • Experience using the Quality Matters, or similar, framework in course design.

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Masters’ Degree in educational technology, instructional design, curriculum design, or a closely related field.
    • Three years of experience as an instructional designer in higher education.
    • Teaching experience in a college or university setting. 
    • Quality Matters certification and experience using the framework to design high-quality courses. 
    • Experience with instructional technology and use of videos/media in the teaching and learning process.

  • Qualifications
    • 5+ years in Customer Service role required, preferably with In-Store Marketing specific experience.  Previous experience as a Supervisor, Team or Project Coordinator required.
    • Bachelor’s Degree, or HS diploma plus comparable 5+ years of relevant service experience directly related to the duties of the job. 
    • You must have the ability to evaluate Client Services team members skill set in relation to work assignment and capacity.
    • You must have the ability to evaluate performance, identify areas for improvement & recommend an improvement training plan for Client Services team members.
    • You must possess the ability to establish your own priorities based on leadership goals, and set pace for the Client Services team.
    • You must have the ability to follow company policy and understand any rules or regulations governing the work being completed.
    • You must have the ability to understand & interpret ISM strategies related to campaign execution, especially in regards to complex data ingestion & promotion logic.
    • You must have the ability to understand the impact work has on the ISM service chain and overall platform
    • In order to complete duties successfully, you must have very good knowledge of technology to include computers and software, especially MS Office, MS Excel, or other programs that may be specific to the job.
    • You must possess very good oral and written communication skills sufficient to explain departmental policy, methods and/or procedures when completing assignments.
    • You must have very good organizational skills that are sufficient to coordinate and ensure the accomplishing of work by established deadlines; prioritize Team workloads and make adjustments to meet business needs.
