In summary, Nexteer is looking for a candidate who can apply the ISO26262 functional safety process to system like Electric Power Steering, Autonomous Steering Systems, and Steer by Wire Systems in development. The System Safety Engineer supports the full lifecycle of the safety process - from concept and requirements through design and analysis to implementation and testing. The ideal candidate has a strong background in embedded systems. This position will be located in either Saginaw or Auburn Hills, MI. For the right candidate, we offer a generous relocation package. Job Responsibilities: * Lead system safety analysis activities for assigned projects such as Electric Power Steering, Autonomous Steering, and Steer by Wire * Perform Safety Analysis such as FTA, FMEDA, and FMEA * Support the development of ISO26262 compliant processes and work products for Nexteer * Specify safety strategies and requirements for system architecture, including safety concept, failure management and driver-warning strategies * Support development of robust, fail-safe, or fault tolerant architectures and components to satisfy safety requirements * Specify detailed safety requirements, including diagnostic and software requirements * Specify and monitor specific safety tests, including fault injection testing * Perform and document safety assessments, including safety case * Stay abreast of new technology Required Skills: * Minimum 3 years experience (in electronics, automotive, safety, mechanical, embedded, software) OR; minimum of 1 year experience (in the above) combined with formal functional safety training * Awareness of ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 systems safety standards * Excellent organization and documentation abilities * Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people Preferred Skills: * Experience in automotive embedded systems, hardware, and/or software * Experience in failure analysis * Knowledge of FTA tools (Reliability Workbench, Fault Tree Plus, medini analyze, etc.) * General competency in all core fields (embedded systems, computer hardware and software, electronics, controls, vehicle dynamics, mechanical) * Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) * Strong computer skills, especially in spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink) * Knowledge of project management processes and tools * Vehicle testing approximately 2 days per month driving and/or riding while collecting data, for 1 day intervals * Bench testing of steering systems approximately 0.5 days every two weeks working at a function test stand * Travel to customer sites approximately 1/month driving two hours each way; approximately 4 times a year flying approximately 10 hours one way. * Computer work Educational Requirements: Degree: Bachelor required Majors: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics Equal Opportunity Employer Disabled/Minorities/Veterans/Women VEVRAA Federal Contractor Nexteer is an E-Verify employer.
