    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    With minimal supervision, performs office and field work of scientific nature that relates to inspection, investigation, public education and regulation of food service facilities, water supplies, individual sewage disposal, solid waste disposal landfills, surface and groundwaters, or other applications in support of state and local ordinances governing proper environmental health practices for Lake County.

     

    LOCATION: 500 W. WINCHESTER RD., LIBERTYVILLE, IL 

    HOURS: 37.5 HOURS A WEEK; MONDAY-FRIDAY (8:00AM-4:00PM)

    FLSA STATUS: HOURLY 

     

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Reviews plans and inspects facilities including, but not limited to, Environmental Health Programs of Food Sanitation, Potable Water Supplies, Surface and Groundwaters, Private Sewage Disposal, Solid Waste, Nuisance Control, Insect and Pest Control, Housing and Recreational Areas all in accordance with local and state rules and regulations.
    • Prepares activity reports and records of inspections, investigations and correspondence.
    • Collects, under prescribed methods, environmental samples as required.
    • Participates in making recommendations that formulate service area policies and procedures.
    • Investigates complaints involving possible sanitary violations, offers advice on solutions, and makes follow-up inspections.
    • Participates in epidemiological surveys including, but not limited to, foodborne illness outbreaks, seeking unhealthful conditions, and methods of control and correction.
    • Assists in training, mentoring and in staff standardization.
    • Offers solutions and follow up on corrections of ordinance and code violations.
    • Prepares documentation for court cases and provides expert court testimony when required.
    • Makes reasonable and accurate interpretations of statutes and ordinances applicable to responsibilities.
    • JOB SKILL ASSESSMENT(S) MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE.

     

     

     

    EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND CERTIFICATION:

    • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours in physical and/or biological sciences.
    • Two years of experience working in the environmental health field.
    • Registered as a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner in accordance with the provision of the Illinois Licensed Environmental Health Act, by the State of Illinois or reciprocal State or status as a Registered Sanitarian through the National Environmental Health Association.
