MISSION / SUMMARY:
This position is critical to managing the safe and reliable operations of equipment in the Kraft, Caustic and Recycle areas of the mill consisting of nine (9) batch digesters with associated chip feeding equipment, two (2) chemi-washer lines, two (2) lime kilns and associated recaust equipment, and a three (3) pulper recycle operation. The ideal candidate must be able to understand and align business operations as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
Provides leadership to all aspects of the operation ensuring the department achieves its goals in a safe and sustainable manner.
Able to establish and maintain a high level of standards within the department.
Drives department safety to zero injuries and supports the mill safety focused culture.
Ensures environmental compliance for the Fiber, Caustic, and Recycle areas
Reliably produces pulp meeting the paper machines’ requirements for quality and quantity
Provides leadership with the implementation of problem-solving strategies and execution of key performance objectives.
Assists in preparation of department budgets.
Manages fiber, chemical, labor, and MRO budgets to plan.
Assists with the development of the mill CI plan and supports the project implementations.
Partners with the mill engineering team to develop and maintain the department capital plan.
Ensures a well-trained workforce. Determines training needs and administers appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees in each production area.
Maintains and executes the department’s succession plan.
Improves the department’s Standard Work systems and drives their consistent use.
Administers and implements Labor relations (Collective Bargaining Agreement) through consultation with Human Resources and Mill Management.
Utilizes external resources as needed. Maintains a good working relationship with the corporate Center of Excellence (COE) group.
Actively shares with and utilizes best practices from other mills.
Takes an active leadership role, when necessary, with mill wide issues.
