    Engineer III - M&T US - OR - Clackamas -Job Description Engineer III Job Description PURPOSE: This position commonly reports to the Materials & Technology Manager and may perform one or more of the following engineering functions associated with product and process improvement: Process Engineering, Dimensional Engineering, and Defect Reduction. Incumbent provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of processes, plans and procedures surrounding dimensional inspection of castings using scanning technologies. Designs methods to improve efficiency in production, reduce process variability, assuring compliance with approved methods and quality standards while exercising discretion and independent judgment in the evaluation of possible courses of action and acting or making decisions after all various possibilities have been considered. Based on their independent judgment and within the scope of their engineering expertise, incumbent is vested with the authority to stop the manufacturing process. Effective decisions will typically result in: successful solutions, processes, parts, and programs, and considerable financial benefit to the company. May supervise and/or guide other engineers and/or technicians on an ongoing basis or as needed for the term of assigned projects. Required Skills ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: -Participate in the design and layout of concurrent engineering processes with both internally and externally customers -Responsible for preparing design specifications, requirements compliance, and customer interface on production information for manufacturing -Interaction with customers -Manufacturing process review -Develop and maintain necessary tools and procedures to meet customers blueprints and CAD files -Coordinate with QA and production personnel in preparing necessary information to produce investment castings -Procure quotes -Establish 4 blockers and milestones for specific projects -Participate in correcting engineering related problems -Review customer drawings and specification changes for impact -May supervise other engineers or technicians on assigned projects -Responsible for casting Dimensional quality -Issue technique cards and work instructions -Work with the Product Engineer and the computer database to determine costs of specific operations and pursue appropriate cost reduction programs -Develop part router in accordance with PCC procedures and customer requirements -Identify and address safety considerations within the scope of their job responsibilities -Be responsible for annual cost savings projects totaling 3x the employees salary. -Ability to work individually and/or contribute to team initiatives -Ability to calculate financial benefit of projects -Must be able to lead a diverse work group (engineers, technicians, sales, manufacturing) to accomplish goals -Effectively coordinate and communicate with manufacturing to complete projects. -Be able to prioritize projects based on impact to production. -Be willing to investigate new solutions -Take input and direction -Be able to handle long-term, multi-year projects with short-term, high pressure projects -Time management of multiple projects Required Experience EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: -Requires an AA or BS degree and 2-3 years of relevant experience in scanning technologies. -BS degree in engineering preferred. -Requires knowledge in: photogrammetry, structured light, and laser scanning. -CMM understanding preferred -Machining understanding preferred -Requires knowledge in Polyworks and Geomagic for dimensional analysis, reverse engineering, and script writing -Knowledge in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance techniques (GD&T) preferred. -Knowledge and demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines; employed manufacturing processes; statistical analysis (data correlation); technical report writing, presentation preparation and delivery. -Ability to define, plan, and complete major projects, presentations to management -Experience using Computer Aided Design, SolidWorks, Unigraphics or Catia are preferred. -Experience using Statistical programs, Minitab or Statistica are preferred -Requires knowledge of investment casting process -Requires adequate Six Sigma knowledge or be willing to acquire training. Years of Experience: 2+ Level of Education: AS, MET, BS Degree or higher.
