    The UX Researcher uses knowledge of social science and experience to lead analytical, experimental, investigative and other technical fact-finding work for defining feature behavior or enhancements for significant portions of the user experience supporting product development; solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. The researcher will influence design and business strategy to create actionable research programs that address complex user experience and product definition questions.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    ·         Execute research studies using a broad range of methods (e.g. moderating interviews, usability, focus groups, contextual evaluations, diary studies; design and program surveys) directly, in collaboration with other research staff, or using vendors.

    ·         Present findings and implications (from a single study or a combination of multiple studies and/or data sources) to stakeholder audience.

    ·         Actively looking for ways to share insights with a broader internal audience on studies and latest industry trends.                        

    ·         Define testable hypotheses that are relevant to the business and design approaches to addressing general user experience and product marketing questions.

    ·         Turn quantitative insights into innovative solutions for future implementations

    ·         Investigate and socialize new technology, processes, and/or research approaches.

    ·         Lead this initiative within the research team or ESI as a whole (e.g. accessibility, product market research, usability best practices).                      

    ·         Be a customer advocate, with a familiarity of competitive experiences and ESI research findings that you are able to apply toward evaluation of internal products and ensuring teams have a clear picture of the end users of the experience.

    ·         Work closely with various stakeholders (e.g. product, design, development) to produce high quality, innovative designs that leverage research insights; contributes to the development of functional strategy.                   

    ·         Mentor junior team members.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    ·         Bachelor’s degree in related field required.

    ·         8-10 years relevant experience or 4-8 years and Master’s or PhD Degree.

    ·         Experience driving best practices related to product research in their previous organization(s).

    ·         Quant: Knowledge of SQL, Excel, R or Python (or SPSS).

    ·         Proficient in MS Office suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; strong written and verbal communication skills for research communication and design recommendations.

    ·         Experience working a problem from start to finish – defining the problem, identifying the data needed to address the problem, locating data, building the necessary model(s), and communicating the results.

    ·         Data visualization and strong presentation skills (in addition to strong analysis skills) are key in this role to help support design decisions at scale.

    ·         Experience creating best practices related to data science in their previous organization(s) and experience taking a business problem, identifying necessary data, designing an approach to analyzing that data, completing analysis, and visualizing those results to their teams.

    ·         Ability to identify existing data sources, retrieve them, and work with teams to get new data sources implemented. Relationship building and maintenance are key to success in this function of the role.

    ·         Ability to analyze data from various logical and experiential (e.g. phone, print, web) sources is required.

    ·         Passion for customers and a demonstrated understanding of experience and conversion metrics is key. 

    ·         Social science research methods (e.g. usability, surveys, observation), qualitative and quantitative data analysis, foundational statistics.

    ·         Experience with usability and accessibility.

    ·         Quant: Pull data from various sources using SQL and similar protocols.

    ·         Quant: Analyze data sets using appropriate statistical techniques and tools (e.g. R, Python), linking diverse sources where required.

    ·         Apply knowledge of social science and ecommerce practices to create and refine UX metrics, user behavior models, and/or algorithms (including collaborating with other researchers to design research to augment quantitative results, identifying areas within products for instrumentation, etc.).

    ·         Creating data visualizations (e.g. using Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint), presenting findings and implications to stakeholder audience; actively looking for ways to share insights with a broader internal audience.

    ·         Apply expertise to new approaches – identifying new and unique ways to address UX challenges via collaboration, skill acquisition, or novel approaches to existing challenges.
