The Role: Planet is looking for an experienced satellite tasking engineer to lead the optimization of image collection schedules for Planets revolutionary imaging satellites. The collection planner shall have a demonstrated record of working with GIS tools to manipulate geospatial files for ingest into ordering systems and management of satellite collection schedules leveraging varied data sources. The Planners main focus is to ensure that collection orders are satisfied according to service level objectives (SLO) and  company revenue goals. Experience in fine-tuning output from collection feasibility systems, and scoring probabilities of success to meet customer needs, with strong emphasis on cloud analysis and forecasting is required. Candidates should have experience with mission planning systems, remote sensing, and especially GIS tools. Familiarity with satellite command and telemetry systems is a plus. Responsibilities: Optimize image collection schedules based on customer needs and historic and real-time weather data. Experience with imaging parameters (such as image collection geometry) as they relate to collection capacity and resulting image quality is desired. Experience with available data sources for historical, real-time, and forecast cloud coverage (e.g. NOAA GFS, MODIS, etc.). Coordinate closely with flight operations, to ensure health and safety of Skybox satellites. Develop and maintain imaging metrics as they relate to cloud avoidance and collection yield. Establish processes that will drive an exceptional, industry leading team of customer sales engineers and collection planners. Execute innovative customer sales engineering and collection planning solutions to improve resource efficiency and scale effectively with a constellation of 12+ imaging satellites. Analyzing collection/satellite data and leveraging software programs to capture patterns/correlations with regards to collection optimization. The Must Haves: Geography Degree is strongly preferred & 3+ years of hands-on experience Knowledge of Python (1-2 years of fundamental experience) is preferred Familiarity with scheduling systems in a satellite platform. Knowledge of meteorology also a plus. GIS tools - Working knowledge ArcGIS & geospatial files Desire to work in a small, dynamic startup environment with rapidly updating priorities and a constant sense of urgency Excellent communication and collaboration skills & ability to work independently Data-driven mindset and comfort with statistical analysis.
