Position Summary:
As a Platform Engineering Intern you’ll be responsible for cloud configuration, aiding software engineers with deployment, CI/CD pipeline creation/modification, automation and monitoring of our deployment platforms. You’ll join the Defense Digital and IT Team and work day-to-day with an internal organization called the Software Factory. This is a small, agile, and fast-moving team which embraces the concept of “Learn Fast, Fail Fast” as we help to digitally transform the larger business.
What You’ll be doing:
Configuring our Azure cloud subscriptions for secure operation and deployments of applications and tools
Creating and maintaining deployment and test automation, CI/CD pipelines, vulnerability scanning, and other capabilities that let our software engineers get their changes to production quickly and efficiently
Keeping up with industry best practices, new libraries, and tools in the Cloud & DevOps ecosystem and bringing that learning to bear on Rolls-Royce projects
Integrating with the internal Software Factory organization by helping to coach, guide, mentor, and train part-time programmers and citizen developers in basic and intermediate software and platform development
Promoting Rolls-Royce as an innovative company internally and externally
Who we’re looking for:
Advocate of high-performance culture and positive change
Comfortable with ambiguity - able to define and implement plans that achieve business value without detailed instructions
Good written and oral communication to a variety of audiences
Demonstrated capability in building CI/CD Pipelines to deploy and run various test types
Demonstrated experience working with commercial cloud providers and services, especially Azure
Tech Stack familiarity is a plus - Azure, GitHub Enterprise, Terraform, Snyk, TypeScript, OPA, GraphQL although various other languages, tools, and concepts are used as well
Preferred Qualifications (but not required):
Experience working with a software team and solving difficult technical problems.
Experience in and awareness of modern Cloud and DevOps topics (Azure Services, IaC, CI/CD, SCA, automated testing, monitoring & observability, containerization, etc.)
Awareness of modern software practices (git version control, GitHub/GitLab/other source code managers, VSCode or other IDEs, cloud native / service-based architectures, agile practices, etc.)

Relevant majors:
Applicants must be attending an accredited college or university, working toward a bachelor’s degree in a relevant major.

Computer Science (Informatics or other fields)
Engineering, Technology, or Data Science
Minimum GPA: 3.0
