    Job Summary

    The Process Engineering Intern will have the opportunity to interact and contribute to both day-to-day production and new process development at a ceramic manufacturing site. This role will function within a process engineering group, with a focus on extruded ceramic products. Project tasks related to the role include process improvement of current silicon carbide extruded products, and the development of new products/processes at the Niagara Falls, NY plant. The candidate will gain familiarity with the entire evolution of the related production lines (mixing, extrusion/forming, firing, quality inspection, etc.).

    Duties and Responsibilities of the Role Include:

    • Working across various departments at the site, including Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams
    • Understand the cross functional relationships between Engineering and other areas of the business
    • Efficient time management when working on multiple projects at the same time to meet all deliverables
    • Awareness of how the individual’s contributions impact the greater objectives of the plant and business
    • Regular collection and interpretation of data and periodic presentations of this information to members of the engineering team
    • Compilation of brief technical documents to summarize testing data and/or other information (e.g. technical reports, memos, PowerPoints, Excel Graphs)
    • Accountability for maintaining a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures and best manufacturing practices
    • Supporting a culture of safety by being a personal example and by encouraging, empowering, and involving all staff in safety

    Reports to: Extrusion Department Senior Process Engineer

    Required Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in Materials Science Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and demanding timelines • Analytical problem-solving and critical thinking skills
    • Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Desire to learn and contribute on the manufacturing floor
    • Willingness to be hands-on during development trails, troubleshooting, etc. with both production and analytical equipment
    • Familiarity using Microsoft Office Suite to correspond, analyze and summarize information (Word, PPT, Excel, Outlook)
