  • Responsibilities

    PSP, an RRD Company, is looking for an experienced Prepress Operator on our 2nd shift at our Sacramento, CA facility.

    This is a union position. Ideal candidate would have experience with Prinergy, Preps, Adobe CS, Color Correction and XMPie for variable programming.

    • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, coworkers and management.
    • This position supports digital, large format and offset file prep, proofing and plating.
    • Must be capable of determining page layouts, accounting for trims, bleeds, finishing templates, die cuts, and color needs as needed.
    • Pre-flight files and identify missing or problematic file issues and communicate those issues to the CSR, customer and production personnel.
    • Create print ready files for manufacturing proofs, output proofs, output plates and provide/follow instructions used by others throughout the manufacturing process.
    • Perform quality checks and before releasing to manufacturing.
    • Perform troubleshooting on issues.
    • Must be able to work with various graphic design and layout software applications commonly used on Mac's and PC's.
    • Color management skills and the ability to work with different digital file formats are required.
    • Must have the ability to output digital files to various output devices and must have the ability to continue to learn and use new graphics software on an ongoing basis.
    • Must have a strong understanding of digital and offset print production.

    Required Skills

    • Ability to effectively multi-task in a high pace environment with constantly changing priorities.
    • Pre-flight files in the major pre-press applications.
    • Use proper font management.
    • Import, trap, bleed, and color separate production files for proofing & printing in Prinergy.
    • Create layouts and imposition in Preps.
    • Create die files, finishing templates and proofs.
    • Work with variable print files using XMPie.
    • Operate and maintain workstations, servers, proofers and platemaking equipment.
    • Perform color correction to process color files as requested.
    • Work closely with customer service reps, press operators, and occasionally with sales and/or customers.
    • Follow ISO, Safety, Standard Operating procedures and general housekeeping requirements.
    • Record time and materials accurately.
    • Work in a neat, orderly manner, maintain supply levels, and request repair of equipment as necessary.
    • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • Ability to resolve and solve problems with minimum supervision.
    • Must be able to communicate in English; read, write and understand
    • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
    • Flexible schedule with ability to work overtime as needed

    Required Experience

    • 3+ years Pre-Press experience in a digital and offset printing facility - pre-flighting files, editing files, refining files, building impositions, outputting high and low resolution proofs, outputting imposition proofs, outputting color proofs and making plates.
    • Strong attention to detail.
