  • Responsibilities

    The _ROLL TENDER APPRENTICE PROGRAM  _will provide an accelerated training to qualified candidates. Trainees will learn how  to install plates and blankets on press cylinders, adjust press machine parts,  delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand tools. Trainees will also assist Press Operator with press make ready and perform manual and machine operator tasks in the set-up, maintenance, and operation of the printing press.

    • Learn how to load rolls of paper onto automatic splicing unit of web offset printing press. 
    • Learn how to load rolls of paper onto automatic splicing unit of web offset printing press. 
    • Learn how to inspect rolls of paper for blemishes or tears and cuts away damaged area with knife. 
    • Apply adhesive strip to backup roll and insert backup roll onto automatic splicing unit of press to prepare paper for automatic splicing. 
    • Remove roll of leftover paper from press after automatic splicing.  
    • May assist with some of the make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates, examining plates, prepping and installing blankets, adjusting tension etc. 
    • May clean press and clean and install press components to maintain press in working order. 
    • May prepare and prepares and loads flat stock into a sheet fed press.
    • "A1" DAY SHIFT 12-HOUR ROTATING (7AM-7PM, WEEK 1: MON, TUES, FRI, SAT, SUN, WEEK 2: WED, THURS)
    • PAY BEGINS AT $17.75/HR WITH PROGRESSION UP TO $18.38/HR WITHIN 6 MONTHS

    Required Skills

    • Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine materials, set-up materials needed to run the job successfully
    • Ability to read and interpret documents to include job tickets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to learn to mount and align the printing plates correctly.
    • Skill to follow instructions to operate equipment safely and produce the desired product. 
    • Skill in performing routine operational maintenance and minor repairs Job requires ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
    • Skill to perform routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment under guidance of senior level Press Operators. 
    • Must be able to maintain good attendance.
    • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
    • Must be able to flex schedule to meet the needs of production.
    • Must be able to frequently lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
