    JOB SUMMARY

    This position performs the inspection of bridges and supervises the construction, maintenance, repairs and/or renewal of bridges. It inspects bridge structures to ensure compliance with KCS, AREMA, Industry Bridge Standards, and Federal guidelines.

     

    JOB DUTIES

    • Inspects railroad bridges, arches, and culverts. Analyzes conditions of various types of structures and records details in inspection books.
    • Directs the continual maintenance of bridges, culverts, and structures. Prioritizes repairs based on conditions.
    • Assists with the development of drawings and specifications for bridge projects.
    • Assists with the development of bridge condition ratings.
    • Manages bridge material at various locations for repairs.
    • Provides direction and effective supervision to all subordinates to ensure and promote safe and efficient work habits.
    • Creates and reviews various reports, such as bridge inspection reports, gang weekly activity reports, material reports, FRA reports, and efficiency tests, etc.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

     

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering such as Civil, Structural, or Mechanical.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Knowledge of railroad construction materials.
    • Good communication skills and attention to detail.
    • Technical and mechanical acumen.
    • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Knowledge of KCS On Track Safety Rules, General Code of Operating Rules, FRA Title 49, Track Safety Standards Part 213, and Railroad Workplace Safety and Bridge Worker Safety Part 214.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Shift work is a crucial function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support critical railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned. Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.

    This position requires approximately 75% travel to perform snooper-truck bridge inspections.
