    WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

    The ADFORS division of Saint-Gobain Research North America is seeking a Research Engineer II to join their collaborative team.

    The Research Engineer II will lead new product projects for the Business Unit (BU) with a focus on chemical formulation and textiles technology, using Stage Gate methodology. The key feature technologies of this role will include polymers, PVC plastisol, textiles, sustainable materials. The new hire will collaborate and interface with Competence Research Groups and local R&D teams within the business units.

    Essential Functions

    • Lead Major Projects: Carry projects from conception to successful completion with guidance from your supervisor. You'll have the autonomy to execute technical approaches independently.
    • Innovate and Develop: Work on extending current or new technologies in various areas, focusing on improving and developing products, processes, techniques, and fundamental knowledge.
    • Prototype Fabrication: Create product prototypes and characterize samples using analytical techniques
    • Deliver Results: Provide high-quality results. Present data and findings in both oral and written forms.
    • Project Management: Manage and document projects effectively with minimal supervision. Generate project timelines/plans, technical memos, research reports, and presentations for internal customers, project teams, and management.
    • Support Marketing and Manufacturing: Participate in pilot and production trials, and travel to manufacturing sites or customers for support when needed. Proactively seek out information needed for successful trials and deliver results as requested.
    • Collaborate Across Teams: Engage closely with the process development team within R&D and other members from across ADFORS, including R&D, marketing, and operations.

    IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3+ years of experience or entry-level MS degree with Thesis in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Plastic Engineering, Textile Engineering or related disciplines.

    • Hands-on experience with polymer formulation, processing, and characterization.
    • Proficiency in analytical techniques for characterizing polymer samples.
    • 3+ years of experience in polymer formulations/engineering in a manufacturing environment.
    • Familiarity with formulation DOEs and high throughput screening of polymer formulations and compounds.
    • Ability to manage and document projects effectively with minimal supervision.
    • Skill in generating project timelines/plans, technical memos, research reports, and presentations.
    • Capability to proactively seek out information needed for successful trials.
    • Industrial R&D experience preferred.
    • Experience with PVC preferred.
    • Competency in textile and/or composite materials preferred.
