    JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

    This Manufacturing Engineer role is responsible for the technical management, maintenance, and development of new and existing production lines. This role will oversee the improvement of Graphic Packaging International’s initiatives including Safety, Quality, Productivity, OEE and other key operational KPI’s.

     

     JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    Project and Operations Support:

     

    • Provides technical assistance to production, maintenance - reliability and quality groups as needed to solve equipment and process-related problems and develops methods to improve processes.
    • Optimize manufacturing processes by investigating and eliminating root causes of equipment failures.
    • Manage all phases of assigned projects including:
    • Developing project justification, scope, and subsequent writing of business case
    • Evaluation and selection of equipment suppliers and installation contractors
    • Equipment checkout and subsequent installation
    • Complete project documentation

     

     

    Reliability:

    • Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts.
    • Investigates and analyses relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards.
    • Analyses preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering programs to achieve company, customer and environmental agency reliability objectives.
    • As necessary, proposes changes in design or formulation to improve system and/or process reliability.

    Maintenance & Operational Assistance:

    • Provide technical assistance to trouble-shoot equipment and/or operating problems.
    • Research options and recommend solutions to resolve operating and/or maintenance issues.
    • Coordinate contractor’s activities for contracted-out maintenance work during equipment downtimes.
    • Provide engineering calculations and design drawings for equipment installed by maintenance crews.
    • Perform maintenance call-duty. Call out and supervise maintenance crews as required. Communicate environmental/safety issues to management as required.
    • Identifies operational priorities by assessing operational objectives; determining project objectives, such as, efficiency, cost savings, energy conservation, operator convenience, safety, environmental quality; estimating relevance, time, and costs.
    • Identifies operational problems by observing and studying system functioning and performance results; investigating complaints and suggestions; interviewing process supervisors and operators; completing troubleshooting procedures.
    • Develops operational solutions by defining, studying, estimating, and screening alternative solutions; calculating economics; determining impact on total system.
    • Anticipates operational problems by studying operating targets, modes of operation, unit limitations; monitoring unit performance.
    • Improves operational quality results by studying, evaluating, and recommending process re-design; implementing changes; contributing information and opinion to unit design and modification teams.
    • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
    • Provides operational management information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operating and engineering data and trends.

     

    Leadership:

    • Assist in the management of the Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs including vibration analysis, IR, etc.
    • Manages capital projects as required.
    • Facilitate Reliability Root Cause Analysis Teams.
    • Actively seeks and allocates appropriate decision-making authority or task responsibility to appropriate individuals based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and development needs
    • Considers potential positive and negative impact, business unit priorities, organizational values, and the opportunity to enhance others’ knowledge and skills.
    • Identifies barriers that impact customer service (internal / external) communicates concerns and recommendations to others.
    • Uses understanding of customer needs and the organization’s customer service practices to set priorities, make decisions, and take actions that create customer satisfaction and prevent service issues from occurring.
    • Creates relevant options for addressing problems and opportunities that will achieve desired outcomes.
    • Systematically evaluates business opportunities, targeting those with the greatest potential for producing positive business results.

      

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent field required.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in project or reliability engineering, maintenance, or operations required
    • Experience in high volume manufacturing required
    • Paper or Folding Carton Industry experience highly desirable
    • Must be able to communicate well, both written and verbally, across the organization (shop floor to Executive level) and be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to the business
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
    • Proficient in SAP
