Ryerson & Son, Inc., one of the largest metals distributors in the US, and recently celebrated our 175th anniversary. We operate approximately 100 locations with 4,000 employees in North America and China. We are currently seeking a bright, energetic individual to fill our long-term internship position and to contribute as an essential member within the Operations team in Chicago, IL. Reporting to the managing engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for assigned projects that are designed to offer exposure and experience in a wide array of functional business areas including basic and applied research. Roles and responsibilities: Analyzes provided data and operating conditions; makes and develops recommendations for implementing process improvements as needed. Assess business needs and apply standard project management techniques to recommend and achieve desired results. Partners with team members to gain insight and understanding into Ryerson policies, procedures, and culture. Partners with team members to create, maintain, and present SOP documentation to local team members. The ideal candidate will possess an orientation for results, a strong work ethic, creativity, confidence and a passion for continuous improvement and excellence. Makes and develops recommendations for implementing process improvements as needed with local team members Other projects as assigned Position Requirements: Minimum sophomore year completion with a progressive matriculation towards a Bachelors Degree; MIS, Supply Chain Analytics, or Industrial Engineering a plus Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred. Prior work experience is a plus. Ability to impact and influence others. Proficient with MS Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, Access and Outlook). Familiar with tabular data structure and manipulation. Strong attention to detail with demonstrated analytical and organization abilities. Strong written and verbal communication. Personal initiative and leadership potential. Capable of completing open-ended tasks. Capable of staying on task without direct oversight.
