Carrier is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to work with a cross-functional development team to support the development of residential HVAC equipment and associated components. Specific equipment is Small Package Products (SPP, combination heating & cooling units). The ideal candidate is interested in the design of cooling systems employing the vapor compression cycle and has successfully completed their second semester of Thermodynamics. The candidate must be excited by the prospect of working with a cross-functional team to help support research and development activities and engineering change processes.

    The intern will interface with other product development engineers, lab technicians, model makers, and designers. There will also be a need to collaborate closely with other functional groups (Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Sourcing) and suppliers.

We are seeking an innovative, data-driven, results-oriented engineer to contribute to our continued legacy of innovation. The candidate will have responsibility for the following in addition to ad-hoc assignments as needed.

    • Execute engineering change requests and notices, specification maintenance and updates, updating records, and data entry.
    • Work with Design Services, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and vendors to ensure all specifications are accurate and acceptable to our product and process
    • Works effectively with various functions/disciplines
    • Demonstrates the ability to work within a project team
    • Has the ability to analyze and present data to cross-functional teams and quorum committees esp. from lab test results
    • Work with engineers, lab technicians, and Design Services to investigate and complete sustaining engineering projects
    • Has the ability to write and modify specifications, standard work, and test plans
    • Participates in component/application/system testing and data analysis

    LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Responsible for small projects or multiple tasks within the functional discipline
    • Makes a contribution to the team by applying their engineering knowledge and discipline
    • Works with guidance on projects with a short-term focus
  • Qualifications

    TYPICAL EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Expected degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Successfully completed two semesters of Thermodynamics

    KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Intermediate project management skills
    • Strong customer focus
    • Good networking ability and ability to develop knowledge of others
    • Ability to interpret 2D and 3D drawings and models
    • Understanding of Lean / Continuous Improvement (preferred)
    • Understanding Root Cause Analysis (preferred)
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills (esp. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Organized with strong attention to detail while managing multiple priorities
    • Knowledge of HVAC systems (preferred)
    • Self-starter with a high level of initiative
    • Understanding of engineering principles and concepts

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Comply with the EH&S Policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules and requirements

    • Report to supervision, conditions, or practices that are either unsafe or that may adversely impact the environment, to ensure prompt resolution of potential hazards
    • Attend scheduled EH&S training events
