REPORTS TO: Senior Program Officer – People Pathway. This position is remote until June 30, 2021.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Associate provides support to advance the Foundations Equity goals in the community. Through strategic grantmaking, engagement with Foundation initiatives in the community, its many partners and donors, and partnerships with other foundation staff, the Program Associate ensures that the Foundation’s overall goals and objectives are achieved. The Program Associate is part of the People team focused on bringing to existence an inclusive economy that works for all residents of the Bay Area, regardless of race or zip code.
The Program Associate works independently, with guidance, and collectively on a team to develop and implement activities in the following areas: grantmaking, report writing, building relationships with community, foundation and public partners, and advancing Foundation priorities both internally and in the field. Other responsibilities include grant and contract management, program implementation, representing the Foundation at meetings, and contributing to the strategies and activities of the Foundation’s regional equity agenda.
POSITION SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Associate position requires strong research, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills as well as professional discretion, independent judgment, flexibility and diplomacy. The Program Associate responsibilities include:
- Assist with the development, execution and management of grants, which includes managing the grants timeline/budget/trusts, responding to grant-seeker questions, and overseeing the grant application/reports process.
- Act as the team lead on special assignments which may include outreach, meeting planning, communicating with constituents, and managing small projects or grant programs as assigned.
- Provides back-up support to Program Assistants and staff colleagues as appropriate.
- Conducts grantee/org research in support of donor stewardship and cultivation. Updates specific areas of the SFF website for the programmatic team.
- Support the work of a cross-pathway committee (or other projects that intersect with multiple parts of the foundation) as a member of the Community Impact Department, in addition to be a representative of the Program Associate’s assigned pathway.
- Participate in strategy development of program initiatives, pathway programs or special projects.
- Maintain and support relationships and communications with grantees, nonprofit partners, public sector allies, and other key stakeholders.
- Propose and track opportunities for public policy engagement and advocacy.
- Act as liaison with foundation community partners and key stakeholders on pathway programmatic work and ensure timely response to issues.
- Coordinate and provide critical analysis and evaluation of grantee progress
- Coordinate site visits, community meetings, special convening opportunities, and grantee communications.
- Conduct research and assess opportunities for grants and contract opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five years of work experience.
- Well-organized, self-starting, and independent with the ability to multi-task, set priorities, track projects, and meet deadlines.
- Experience in areas related to racial equity and economic inclusion (which may include housing rights and anti-displacement, education justice, criminal justice, worker rights, or other issues).
- Creates positive, long-term working relationships by demonstrating a commitment to interdependence, consistency, and flexibility.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and application processing.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, highly skilled with great attention to detail.
- Experience with project management
- Experience working in power building/movement institutions
- Capacity to work in a multicultural environment, including competency in working with individuals and groups of diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education, and experience.
- Knowledge of local and regional politics, policy making and policymakers a plus.
- Experience working in non-profit and/or philanthropy a plus
