  • Responsibilities

    Reports To: Director of Planning & Analysis (80%) and Program Related Investments Officer (20%)

    Position Summary:

    The Financial Analyst will be a key member of the Finance Team, with 80% support to our Financial Planning & Analysis 'FP&A' team and 20% support to our Program Related Investments ‘PRI’ team.

    • The FP&A team is responsible for all aspects of financial planning including designing and implementing the annual budgeting process, developing financial projections and long-term scenarios, applying spending policies to endowed funds, transferring assets between funds, accounts and budgets, managing and forecasting the foundation’s operating reserve, analyzing for liquidity planning, liaising with all departments across the organization, and providing trainings to support staff’s familiarity with our financial results.

    • The PRI team is responsible for building and managing our Bay Area Community Investment Fund—a portfolio of direct loans to organizations and other mission-related investments.

    • The FP&A team and the Investment team heavily partner with the third team within SFF’s Finance unit, which is the Accounting team.

    Position Scope and Responsibilities:

    • Prepare financial management reports, analyses, written summaries for the Finance team, department leaders, Board of Directors, etc.

    • Provide ongoing analytical support to budget managers on their reports and day-to-day financial questions/requests, as well as train new staff on financial resources.

    • Support the financial reporting and planning needs of Projects and Initiatives, which includes: informing project budget management and external reporting, and coordinating cross-departmentally to maintain accurate information in grant applications/fund reports/initiative tracking.

    • Support fund management in the general ledger system, including the architecture of fund attributes and recordkeeping standards, quality control of fund information, setup of new funds, and periodic review and analysis of fund balances and initiative spending.

    • Collaborate extensively with the Manager of Financial Analysis and cross-departmental teammates on projects and requests.

    • Provide analytical and portfolio monitoring support for the PRI program, and conduct additional ad hoc analysis for the Investments team.

    • Actively participate in process improvement conversations, team building projects, and other initiatives as requested.

    • Provide analytical support for grantmaking due diligence processes, as needed.

    • Participate and engage in cross-departmental activities that may be outside the incumbents' core work scope that are linked to the North Star of the organization.

    • Other responsibilities as relevant.

    Qualifications:

    • 2+ years experience in Finance and/or Accounting is preferred

    • Strong analytical, interpersonal, organization, and communication skills

    • High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups, etc)

    • Adept at building strong cross-departmental partnerships with colleagues across a wonderfully diverse organization

    • Proficiency utilizing systems and adopting new technologies to improve processes and communications. (Position will frequently interface with Salesforce, Questica, Financial Edge, Fluxx, etc)

    • Detail-oriented, responsible, and conscientious team player with a positive attitude

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
