Savage is looking for a locomotive operator with atleast one year rail switching experience who will be r esponsible for the daily railcar movement in our facility located in Midvale, Utah. Responsibilities Communicate with other train crew members, the railroad employees by radio, signals or by other means to give and receive train operations information and aid in the movement and operation of trains Prepare necessary paperwork associated with the movement of the railcars Participate in safety training programs, which may require brief and occasional travel Understand and adhere to rail rules and regulations as prescribed by Savage, our customer, and the Railroad Professional interaction and collaboration with other Savage Team Members, customers, Class 1 Railroad personnel, and members of the regional and executive management team Qualifications Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision Experienced locomotive engineer---have been previously FRA certified and GCOR rules certified Pass a written skills test on the type of work that he or she will be performing Ability to pass a skills test on the type of work performing The Rail Switch Operator MUST understand the importance of his/her attendance Ability to work Holidays and weekends as needed Ability to work rotating shift schedule and overtime when needed Ability to travel to other sites as needed Education/Experience Minimum of 1 year experience is preferred High School Diploma or GED equivalent Physical Requirements Ability to be exposed to the outdoor elements Climb on and off rail-cars and locomotives safely Operate rail-car hand brakes & rail switches Consistently bend, stoop, kneel and climb on elevated surfaces Work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time Lift up to 80 lbs consistently throughout the course of a shift Operate basic hand tools Wear required PPE With more than 70 years experience in hundreds of locations across North America and internationally, Savage is a trusted partner for safely moving and managing mission-critical materials with worry-free consistency while creating value for our Customers.
