    HOLLY HUNT is a sales and service organization, as well as designer and maker of high-end interior design furniture, lighting, textiles, leather, and rugs. HOLLY HUNT’S “to the trade” customers are interior designers and architects. 85 to 90 percent of business revenue is generated from residential purchases, while 10 to 15 percent is generated from contract, corporate or hospitality purchases.

     

    POSITION PROFILE

    We are looking for a skilled seamstress to staff our Chicago, IL workroom.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position will be responsible for sewing previously cut fabric and leather for application to HOLLY HUNT furniture items. All stitching must meet the rigorous quality standards of HOLLY HUNT. This position will also be expected to create these quality products in a production environment.

     

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Sews product upholstery and leather using straight stitches and top stitches.
    2. All stitches must be “perfectly” straight and properly spaced. In addition, corners must be perpendicular, and angles must be accurate.
    3. Measure sewn upholstery and test fit the finished product to its matching frame.
    4. Measure the number of stitches per inch to maintain consistency from product to product.
    5. Perform simple preventive maintenance tasks on the sewing equipment, i.e. oiling and simple adjustments.
    6. Provide instruction to less experienced seamstresses.
    7. Assist the fabric/leather cutter as needed.
    8. Maintains sewing room area.

    Required Skills

    • The candidate will be expected to pass a sewing test that involves creating a cover for a bench with top stitch as per the photos below.
    • Must be willing to operate in a collaborative atmosphere and learn skills such as fabric/leather pattern cutting.

    Required Experience

    • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED), or work experience which demonstrates performance competency.
    • 3-5 years general sewing.
    • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency on both single needle and walking-foot column sewing machines.
    • Must have experience sewing all types of fabric and leather, including linen, mohair, supple leather, and stiff leather.
    • At least 1 year sewing leather with a special focus on top stitching.
    • Experience in furniture or automotive upholstery is a plus.
