We are seeking a candidate to join our team as an HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL (HSE) SPECIALIST.

JOB SUMMARY: This position has overall responsibilities for coordinating the implementation of plant safety/health programs and plant environmental compliance programs in support of corporate-wide guidelines, standards, and applicable regulations; providing on-site leadership, guidance and assistance to plant staff in achieving superior safety/health and environmental performance; and working closely with other team members for data collection for monthly environmental compliance requirements. They understand and align business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant, hands on HSE experience.
Manufacturing experience required.
Experience with creation and implementation of training program is preferred.
Experience writing work instructions/procedures preferred.
Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks and forklifts and clamp trucks preferred.
Ability to motivate people to perform at high levels.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental science or related field and/or equivalent experience in a converting facility is preferred.
Good understanding and working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.
Experience (3-5 years) in coordinating and developing safety/health and environmental programs.
Experience (3-5 years) in industrial safety, health protection, environmental protections, and regulatory compliance.
SKILLS:
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER/OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS - SAP, MS Office and database programs; Requires use of all general office equipment (i.e., fax, copier, telephone, etc.).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Company issued Fork Truck Operator’s License; Company issued Clamp Truck Operator’s License.
