    Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.

    Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.


    __Your role: Spirit Maine is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer. The primary responsibility for this position is participation on validation and qualification activities for process, equipment, and utilities of a facility which manufactures state of the art composite materials and products. In addition, the individual will work closely with production and engineering management to develop, maintain, and implement quality system documents to ensure they follow identified standards and regulations. Partner with manufacturing to improve shop floor processes.

    ** Job Responsibilities:**

    • Develop and maintain non-raw material supplier quality assurance systems (qualification, auditing, scorecards, complaint and corrective action reports, etc.) for external and FMI suppliers
    • Develop and maintain supplier quality assurance, machining quality management and customer regulatory/certification/validation systems
    • Coordinate FMI and supplier quality requirements
    • Represent FMI quality as the point contact to customers
    • Develop and manage machining quality assurance systems to include AS9100/ISO 9001, metrology, MSA, statistical sampling and metric reporting
    • Develop and utilize FMI systems to satisfy customer quality requirements including regulatory, certification, and validation systems
    • Coordinate production quality assurance at FMI locations and external suppliers
    • Ensure Process and Product Database integrity
    • Verify product sampling, identification, and traceability
    • Perform scrap analysis, root cause analysis, and develop countermeasure action plans
    • Train inspectors on best practice, local standards and quality assurance procedures
    • Review customer and internal drawings; report back to interested parties of required changes or corrections
    • Participate in the Engineering Change Order process as a reviewer
    • Internal Auditor for AS 9100
    • Project management of RC/CA
    • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
    • Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide Lean and Safety improvement initiatives

    ** What we need from you** :

    • Bachelor's degree (BS in engineering discipline from four-year college or university) in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials engineering, or closely related discipline and 5+ years of relevant experience
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Windows Operating system
    • Familiarity with database usage, Statistical Process Control, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
    • Expertise/experience in working with and meeting customers and/or suppliers requirements
    • Experience as a team leader in identifying and resolving issues
    • Good presentation skills
    • Quality Assurance practices and procedures expertise
    • Practical knowledge and experienced use of Lean, Six Sigma, TQM and basic descriptive statistics
    • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
    • Supports, cooperates with, and participates in company-wide Lean improvement initiatives

    ** Preferred:**

    • Experience in composites manufacturing and process engineering
    • Machining process proficiency
    • ISO 9001/AS 9100 certification knowledge
    • ASQ Certification CQE
    • Lean or Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification
