Spirit Maine's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
_ Your role:_ The Manufacturing Process Engineering Co-Op candidate will work on a variety of projects, applying their engineering education to real world problem solving. The Co-Op will be focused on improving the safety and manufacturability (quality, yield, productivity etc) of production equipment and processes. These objectives will be accomplished through continuous improvement and applying lean principles.
_ Job responsibilities:_
Learn FMI Manufacturing and Engineering Processes to help identify and articulate KPI (Key Process Indicators).
Once KPIs are identified, support creation of data-driven measurement and reporting to stimulate data driven priority responses within Engineering and Production following Theory of Constraint philosophy
Assist in planning and designing manufacturing data and reporting the Fiber Materials Production System
Maximize efficiency by analyzing KPI, equipment uptime and work force utilization and proposing dashboards for actionable intelligence
Provide feedback / input based on data performance for scheduling and equipment utilization based on Theory of Constraints
Participate in Lean Activities
Follow all Safety Procedures and maintain a safe work environment
Support capacity improvement initiatives
