Job Title: Security Specialist III - Security Officer Agency: Department of Mental Health-Public Safety Opening Date: Thu. 03/15/18 Closing Date/Time: Tue. 04/03/18 5:00 PM Eastern Time State Salary Range: $22,182.00 - $41,046.00 annually Agency Hiring Range: Min: $ 25,812.00 Max:$ 41,046.00 Job Type: FTE - Full-Time Location: Richland County, South Carolina Normal Work Schedule: Shift may vary - Rotating Job Responsibilities Benefits Supplemental Questions Additional Positions located in Columbia, SC (Richland County) Under general supervision perform duties required for the enforcement of rules and regulations of the SC Department of Mental Health and Public Safety, to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors and employees. Assist nursing services with upset patients or in locating missing patients, transport patients as required. Make initial reports of all incidents, to include patient abuse, thefts and contraband possession. Transport highly disturbed and unmanageable patients. Patrol assigned areas to prevent infractions of rules and regulations and check property by standards operating procedures. Enforce security measures throughout assigned areas. Assist law enforcement officers in searching vehicles, employees and visitors as needed. Respond to fire alarms or other emergency calls. Assist in extinguishing fires and maintain crowd control if necessary. Stay abreast and familiar with all emergency codes and occupational safety hazard requirements. Transmits messages and alarms by radio communications in connection with safety prevention and protection programs. Check area property and perimeter to maintain a safe environment. Minimum and Additional Requirements: A high school diploma and six months experience in fire prevention, corrections, safety or security activities. Able to pass background and criminal records checks. Good Driving Record and able to pass medical and criminal records checks required. Preferred Qualifications: Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and/or a high school diploma and minimum six months of security, corrections, fire safety and/or law enforcement .
