Pay Band Band 4 Hiring Range - Min. $26,988.00 Hiring Range - Max. $38,460.00 Opening Date 01/03/2019 EEO Statement Equal Opportunity Employer Job Responsibilities Assists with planning and execution of data collection for the Small River Assessment and other freshwater research studies, including site selection, computer and field reconnaissance, coordination of sampling activities and collection of target biological, physical, and chemical data at sample sites. Manages project data and assists with preparation of technical reports and publications for the Small River Assessment and other freshwater research studies. Enters data into spreadsheets or databases and performs quality assurance procedures to ensure data are representative and accurate. Assists with analyses of data in order to provide relevant results per study objectives. Researches and acquires equipment necessary for all phases of study implementation and data collection for the Small River Assessment and other research studies. Manages and maintains project-related equipment and supplies in the field and lab. Routinely checks performance of sampling gear and repairs accordingly. Calibrates field and lab equipment according to protocol and orders supplies as necessary. Assists with data collection, management and equipment tasks for various research studies being conducted by the Clemson subunit of the Freshwater Fisheries Research unit. Minimum and Additional Requirements An associate degree in the technical sciences and one (1) year of experience in wildlife or fisheries work or a high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in wildlife or fisheries work Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the principles of fisheries biology and stream ecology. Ability to identify freshwater fishes of SC. Ability to conduct fieldwork under potentially harsh weather conditions. Ability to manage and maintain field and lab sampling equipment. Proficient with word processing and data management programs including Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to serve as the lead technician for the Small Rivers Assessment team and allied aquatic studies. Ability to complete field data collection using multiple fisheries sampling methods including backpack, barge and boat electrofishing, as well as habitat assessment and water quality measurement. Ability to collaborate and assist with regional fisheries management projects.
