    TITLE:  DIRECTOR OF THE MIXED CHORUS AND ADJUNCT MUSIC FACULTY

     

    REPORTS TO: Director of Performing Arts

     

    CAMPUS:  Queens

     

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Performing Arts, the incumbent will provide artistic direction and leadership for the Mixed Chorus at St. John’s University.  The Director of the Mixed Chorus will be responsible for developing, implementing, directing, monitoring, evaluating, and promoting the Mixed Chorus.  The incumbent will also work to promote and enhance the Mixed Chorus course as part of the music faculty.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Provide leadership and supervision of the Mixed Chorus
    • Serve as Conductor/Artistic Director of the Mixed Chorus
    • Teaching choral parts
    • Voice management for chorus members
    • Working knowledge of music technology
    • Music transcription and arranging as needed
    • Expand the corpus of choral music to which students are exposed while framing it in historical, and cultural contexts.
    • Proficiency in piano, other keyboard instrument or guitar
    • Coordinate all performances featuring the Mixed Chorus
    • Manage all budgets for the Mixed Chorus
    • Oversee marketing for the Mixed Chorus
    • Produce at least one major concert for the Mixed Chorus each semester
    • Serve as advisor for the Mixed Chorus student leaders and general body
    • Conduct auditions for new members each semester
    • Maintain connections with Mixed Chorus alumni
    • Recommend/maintain/secure all instruments and equipment for use by the Mixed Chorus students and personnel
    • Procure sheet music and build appropriate repertoire for the Mixed Chorus
    • Maintain a music library for the Mixed Chorus

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    This position manages employees in the mixed chorus and is responsible for the hiring and performance management of the employees within that department.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This position operates in a professional office environment and is required to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc. This position also operates in multiple event venues (i.e. athletic fields, arenas, church, etc.) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 15 lbs. and could be exposed to higher-than-average noise levels.

     

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This position is part-time and the expected hours of work are approximately 20 hours per week. This position regularly requires long hours and some weekend work.

    Travel is primarily local and may include visits to the other NY campuses. Some travel is out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in music or equivalent experience as a choir director preferred.
    • 7-9 years of work experience of work experience in a higher education setting preferred; strong consideration will be given to candidates with experience in a diverse higher education setting.

    • Analytical and communication and problem-solving skills
    • Worked closely with ABAP, Basis, Data Warehouse and other teams in design and implementation of SAP FI functionalities
    • Solid understanding of the integration with MM and SD is essential
    • Good understanding of EDI/IDocs, process codes, partner profiles, etc.
    • Worked on FI-Logistics processes like buy-sell process, third party shipment, intercompany transactions etc.
    • In-depth knowledge and Hands On expertise in configuring FICO modules GL, AP, AR, Rev Recognition
    • Good knowledge in CO areas like cost center accounting, profile center accounting, COPA.
    • Experienced in writing detailed functional specifications, prepare test scenarios, write test scripts and perform end-to-end testing
    • Accounting background and good process knowledge is highly preferred.
    • Experience and desire to work in a management-consulting environment that requires regular travel.
    • Provide solutions including how to leverage standard SAP S/4 HANA Finance functionality and how to enable requirements while maximizing the ROI
    • Demonstrates the ability to translate business needs into solution architecture requirements and understands the long-term and short-term perspectives of an IT investment situation
    • Must be able to dive into existing code to figure out how objects need to be enhanced. Proven ability to provide technical direction for complex SAP S/4 finance system issues
    • Support and promote integration relationships between IT and business functions
    • Provide accurate timelines for specific tasks assigned
    • Knowledge on S4 is preferred including the new Finance structures and Account based COPA.
    • Knowledge of IT/Document Processing/Data Capture business
    • Knowledge about system development
    • Knowledge about workflow, ERP, SAP R/3, archive and/or document management systems.
    • Understands all standard concepts, practices and procedures in the field
    • Understands computer systems basics, hardware and software
    • Personal integrity, customer focus and positive attitude.
