    Structural Systems Design Engineer

    Indianapolis, IN

    As a Structural Systems Design Engineer for Rolls-Royce, you’ll perform a range of system structural assessments across the full product lifecycle, including new design concepts through to in-service operations.

  • Qualifications

    Basic Requirements:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in mechanical systems OR;
    • A Masters degree in Engineering in mechanical systems OR
    • JD/PhD
    • In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen or permanent resident.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Interest in and/or exposure to experimental testing for vibration, such as modal characterization, frequency screening, and model validation
    • Previous experience building and running models for static and dynamic/vibratory structural analysis
    • Experience with using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) codes such as MSC Nastran, Ansys, Dyna3D, NX, and internal Rolls-Royce codes
    • Programming and scripting skills such as Matlab, Python, Fortan, Java, C, C++
    • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment; willingness to accept responsibility and take initiative
    • Ability to plan and coordinate assigned work with other groups and drive to finish assigned tasks on schedule
  • Desired skills

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Complete hands-on test planning, execution, monitoring, and data post-processing for a range of experimental activities, including lab, rig, and engine testing
    • Perform structural assessments of components and systems, both analytically and experimentally
    • Initiate and execute work packages to address emerging technical challenges relating to the structural behavior of current and future Rolls-Royce products
    • Facilitate teamwork between many disciplines (i.e. – test department, manufacturing, quality, engineering, product support, etc.).
    • Communicate technical and business results via reports and presentations to senior engineers both within and external to Rolls-Royce.
    • Take an active role in continuous improvement of our engineering methods, tools, and processes
