    Carrier Fire & Security Products is seeking an Intern for the Suppression (Mechanical) Engineering Team at the Kidde Fenwal Fire Suppression business in Ashland, MA! Kidde Fenwal, is the world's largest manufacturer of fire safety products. For more than 90 years industry leaders, the military, airlines and firefighters have relied on Kidde Fenwal to deliver outstanding fire detection and suppression.

    We are seeking a motivated, results-oriented college student to join our team. The Carrier internship experience offers interns an environment that provides practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work experience, and the opportunity to apply knowledge and demonstrate strengths in efforts to assist Carrier in achieving its business strategy.

    As a Suppression Mechanical Engineer Intern you will gain experience to include but is not limited to activities and task listed below.

    • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical products and systems in areas including, but not limited to:

    • Mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.

    • May evaluate and analyze mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency along with field installations recommending design modifications to eliminate malfunctions.

    This position reports directly to the Suppression and Value Engineering Manager, collaborating with the full spectrum of Kidde Fenwal leaders, including product management, operations, finance, sales, and marketing.

    Specific responsibilities for this position include:

    • Design and qualification of Suppression products for different applications.

    • Initiate ECOs for new products, changes, and configurations

    • Ensure products are designed and tested to meet product cost and development cost targets along with all relevant agency and safety standards (UL, CSA, CE, FM, etc.).

    • Aid manufacturing and suppliers to resolves production problems as needed

    • Supports and resolves OEM application issues related to new model introductions and existing products.

    • Works with manufacturing, supply chain and suppliers to coordinate the preparation of product samples including component selection, physical configuration, and conformance to specification

    • Tests and qualify new materials and components to support cost reductions, supplier programs, and component obsolescence

    EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

    • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Self-driven and proactive

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

    • Team player and willing to collaborate with others on projects

    • Experience with heat transfer and hydraulic flow in pipes [Preferred]

    • Proficient in 3D solid modeling (Solid Works or equivalent)

    EDUCATION

    • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree program, majoring in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study

    • GPA must be greater than or equal to 3.0 GPA

    • Relevant coursework or previous internships preferred
