    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

    The primary purpose of this position is to perform research in regional or policy areas relevant to the Economics Program. This person will also assist the director of the program in managing and developing the Economics Program’s activities and brand.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: • Contributes to the intellectual vitality of the Economics Program by formulating and developing ideas for research projects and program activities. • Prepares, edits, and distributes written materials including program studies, conference and meeting reports, journal and newspaper articles, executive summaries, etc. • Identifies donors and works with CSIS management in raising funds to support projects. • Works with staff to enhance research and refine proposals into affirmative public policy positions. • Represents the Economics Program on a national/international level and among opinion leaders. • Authors significant papers • Assists with special projects and any other job-related duty as assigned by management.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

    • M.A/M.S or equivalent professional experience required. • 10 or more years’ professional experience, including experience in conducting research on topical and regional areas relevant to the Economics Program, program management, and/or fundraising. • Ability to write research reports, concept papers, business correspondence, etc. • Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, governmental entities, and the general public. • International economic policy expertise. • Requires extensive knowledge of the way the policy community and Washington operate.

    Bachelor’s Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits in Early Childhood Education OR Associate’s Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits in Early Childhood Education OR 12 credits in ECE AND have a valid CDA, or submit within six (6) months of hire date for CDA, obtaining within one (1) year of hire date OR Acquire an Associate’s Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits in ECE within one year (exceptions will be considered by program director on a case by case basis) AND Have access to reliable, insured transportation. Must have or obtain and maintain CT child care first-aid, and infant and child CPR, and medication administration certification. Provide a TVCCA Staff Statement of Good Health signed by a physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner completed within twelve (12) months before the date of employment, and every twenty-four (24) months for current staff. Provide a written report of negative tuberculin test completed within twelve (12) months prior to the date of employment, or for a known prior reactor, no evidence of active tuberculosis on a chest x-ray. Must be able to lift and/or carry a child up to 50lbs. Have the credentials to obtain a Connecticut Head Teacher License from the Department of Public Health. Minimum of 18 years of age

    Hours vary between 7:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday/ 35 hours work week guaranteed to cover center operational hours.
