    In Syracuse, NY, Carrier Corporation's Air Management Systems group is seeking a qualified undergraduate student candidate for a part-time position during the fall semester in 2021 (approximately 10 hours per week). The AMS group develops advanced, highly efficient fan technologies for HVAC applications. This internship offers an opportunity to work and learn alongside practicing engineers and assist in projects that directly affect products under development and deployed in the field. Students will gain experience in experimental laboratory work, including wind tunnel testing, applied to various practical engineering problems. Ideally, applicants should be self-motivated individuals with some background in fluid mechanics, such as related undergraduate coursework or research experience.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    • Work with other members of the AMS team to construct and commission a new 20,000-CFM airflow measurement tunnel for fan development testing.
    • Develop practical engineering skills while seeing a primary project to completion
    • Summarize progress and findings in weekly meetings and a final report to management
  • Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Coursework:
      • Introductory fluid mechanics
      • Aerodynamics
      • Courses related to turbomachinery design are a plus.
    • Familiarity with the following software is desirable:
      • Computer-aided design (CAD), such as SolidWorks, Spaceclaim, Creo
      • MATLAB
      • LabVIEW
    • Previous research experience in a laboratory environment is a plus.
    • Good communication and organizational skills are required.
    • The ability to travel regularly to the Carrier site is required.

    EDUCATION:

    • Pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, emphasizing an interest in aerodynamics and turbomachinery.
    • Candidate must possess a 3.0 Cumulative GPA (3.2 preferred)
