    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Gates Corporation has an opportunity for a Tax Intern at its global corporate headquarters in downtown Denver. This position will have the primary responsibility to assist in federal, state and local income tax compliance, including preparation of the US federal consolidated income tax return for Gates Corporation and its subsidiaries, preparation of Form 5471 for controlled foreign corporations and related forms, calculation and review of tax fixed assets, as well as assistance on the year-end annual ASC 740 provision for income tax reporting cycle.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Gates Corporation is looking for interns to work closely with Gates’s Domestic tax team to assist in the preparation of year-end income tax provisions in the January timeframe and to assist in other areas of federal and state compliance in the February through October timeframe. It is envisioned that the position would typically work more than 40 hours per week during January, but no more than 40 hours per week through the rest of the year, with the schedule being flexible to accommodate class loads. Other duties may be assigned beyond the core functions listed below.

    • 75%: Prepare and submit for review electronic and/or paper workpaper package templates for federal income tax returns, state income tax returns, Forms 5471 foreign subsidiary information reporting returns
    • 25%: Preparation of workpaper templates for ASC 740 provision calculations including current provision, deferred provision, reconciliation and rollforwards of current payables and deferred tax assets and liabilities
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • Pursuing a bachelor or master’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting and/or Tax
    • Completion of Junior year of Accounting degree required
    • General knowledge or familiarity with corporate tax return compliance beneficial

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to learn quickly with support from the tax team
    • Ability to learn and work with various specialized software packages including Oracle, HFM, Corptax, Sage Fixed Asset Software (FAS).
    • Strong analytical, organizational and administrative skills
