    DESCRIPTION

    This position works to maximize KCS's value through optimizing cash flow and protecting revenue via the prompt collection of receivables and resolving customer disputes. The position oversees the application of payments for freight, extra service, demurrage and miscellaneous customer accounts.

     

    Applies and enforces guidelines to ensure compliance and equitable application of policies, procedures, practices, programs, processes, and systems and makes suggestions for continued improvement or increased efficiencies. Delivers operational results that align with department commitments. Plans and prioritizes work to meet business unit commitments aligned with company goals and financial responsibilities. Supervises the daily activities of business and administrative professional teams. Participates in the interview and selection process, provides training and mentorship, offers career development guidance, and is engaged in performance management. Provides timely and constructive coaching and feedback; develops staff and provides challenging opportunities. Reports to a people leader at a higher career level.

     

    ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Provides leadership, direction, development and of cash application staff.
    • Manages collection of receivables for top customers and difficult accounts on a monthly basis.
    • Adheres to stated SOX and audit controls.
    • Works to rectify existent unapplied or misapplied cash situations.
    • Works with Treasury and IT groups to coordinate lockbox activity and resolve file issues.
    • Performs assigned monthly account reconciliations and month-end close processes.
    • Improves efficiencies in department by gaining knowledge of terms of contracts and federal state and local guidelines.
    • Visits with customers to resolve issues when necessary.
    • Participates in testing and implementing SAP changes, and others systems.
    • Handles special projects as assigned.
    • Provides back-up support as necessary for Manager Credit & Collections and Account Specialists.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture in each and every interaction with team, clients, and stakeholders.

     IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

    REQUIRED

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
    • Minimum five (5) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

    PREFERRED

    • Railroad or transportation accounting experience preferred
    • Prior experience with SAP preferred

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • This position has a regular full time schedule with a normal work week of Monday through Friday. There may be a need for occasional work after hours or weekends.
    • This position may require minimal travel up to 10% of the time.

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  The employee must frequently lift items to a height of three to four feet and/or move items that weigh up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move items that weigh up to twenty-five pounds.
