    DIVISION/DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

     

    St. John’s University’s Emergency Medical Services institute provides quality training to Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who treat patients primarily in pre-hospital settings. Our mission is to educate Emergency Medical Professionals who are competent, compassionate and courteous.     RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    EMT/EMTP must conduct basic and advanced life support skills training in compliance with all current policies, procedures and standards as established by St. John’s University, NYS DOH Bureau of EMS, American Heart Association and NYC REMSCO. The position requires Monday through Friday days with flexibility for occasional evening hours and weekends. Demonstrate and coach BLS and ALS skills in accordance with regional, state and national standards. Provide ongoing feedback and counseling to students on their skills performance throughout the course. Coordinate and supervise psychomotor skills evaluation for NYS and National Registry Exams.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • Must possess and maintain a current NYS EMT or EMT-P certification commensurate with the position they are applying for.
    • All must possess and maintain current AHA BLS certification. Paramedics must possess and maintain current AHA ACLS and PALS certifications. Preference given to ALS instructors who possess PHTLS, AMLS and GEMS.
    • Must have a minimum of two (2), concurrent full-time years of EMS 911 ambulance field experience.
    • Letter of recommendation from EMS supervisor.
    • No patient care or disciplinary issues.
    • Preference given to NYS DOH CLI certified to teach at the basic or advanced life support level. All must currently have or be eligible to obtain within 6 months of employment certification with the American Heart Association as a BLS instructor and paramedics as ACLS and PALS instructors.
    • Maintain on a current basis all appropriate instructor certifications.
    • The candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED. College degree preferred.
    • Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) must have a bachelor’s degree to be the lead instructor for the paramedic basic program.
    • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of spreadsheet, presentation and word processing applications.
    • Reports to the Director of EMS Education or his/her designee.

    • Certification as an OSHA certified hoist/forklift operator preferred. On-Site Certification Available.

    • Two years Forklift and or Roll Truck.

    • Experience with shipping mail helpful.

    • Ability to perform duties accurately, timely and safely while working independently as well as working as part of a team.
