    ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF GRADUATE STUDIES

     SCHOOL OF LAW

     

    The Assistant Director will have primary responsibility for departmental systems and operations for all LL.M. and pre-LL.M. programs.  Reporting to the Associate Dean for External Relations, s/he will be responsible for supporting the Associate Director of Graduate Admissions and Global Engagement, Associate Director of Graduate Support and Student Services, and Associate Director of Graduate Academic Programs during the entire student cycle from prospect to applicant to student to gradauate.  S/He will be the primary user of systems such as ACES/Unite, Slate, and Banner and will have significant responsibility with respect to LL.M. enrollment, scholarship application, and revenue reporting.  This is a student facing role.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Correspond with prospects regarding programs, campus visits, open house programming, online info sessions, and tours
    • Correspond with applicants regarding admissions process, application status, decision, and enrollment at St. John’s School of Law
    • Prepare weekly reports to track prospects, applicants, and deposited students
    • Prepare periodic reports on tuition and scholarship
    • Administer scholarship awards to students and coordinate with Budget Services on the amount throughout the student’s academic career
    • Act as registrar for all LL.M. course enrollment issues
    • Insure departmental compliance with department, law school and university policies on topics including FERPA, file retention, and scholarship policies
    • Produce weekly newsletter to update students on deadlines, events, and job postings
    • Supervise the distribution of promotional materials; i.e. mailing of brochures, posters and catalogues, premiums, etc.
    • Interface with Special Events on all LL.M. event needs
    • Supervise undergraduate student workers, and oversee front desk operations
    • Assist with orientation programs and activities for all incoming LLM students
    • Help manage immigration, housing, and financial requirements for international students

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Must be able to manage the direction of the program, work independently, and exercise judgement on issues related to admissions, prospect management, and yield.
    • Ability to work with students, applicants, faculty, judges, practitioners and university personnel
    • Computer skills required including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook 
    • Ability to organize and maintain office files
    • Applicant must have the initiative to identify and undertake necessary tasks
    • Bachelors degree required.

  • Qualifications
    • Offset Production areas of building.
    • Extended time standing, walking, includes stairs on occasion, as well as holding or handling printed materials.
    • Must be able properly lift and insert/remove roll shafts from roll stand or handle off stacking product off the press.
    • Noise level moderate to loud in associated print and warehouse areas.
    • Temperature variation between work areas, may be cold/warm in areas of the warehouse.
    • May occasionally need to move or lift materials up to 70 pounds.
