    DIRECTOR OF MAJOR GIFTS 

    SCHOOL OF LAW

     

    JOB SUMMARY: 

     

    Director of Major Gifts is a member of the School of Law’s frontline fundraising team and is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts of $50,000 and above from alumni, parents and friends of the School. They will manage a portfolio of 100 alumni donors and prospects and help to plan for the School’s Comprehensive Campaign in tandem with the University Campaign.  This position reports to the Associate Dean for Advancement.  

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:  

     

    • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects/suspects capable of gifts in the $50,000 to $500,000 range.  
    • Conduct a minimum of 300 substantive contacts annually, with responsibility for managing communications and follow-up, including maintaining detailed activity reports and moves management information on all prospects in the portfolio. 
    • In collaboration with the Associate Dean and the Dean, craft solicitations tailored to the needs of the School and the donor’s interest.   
    • Meet an initial major gift goal of $250,000. The goal will increase each year, eventually to $1 million. 
    • In addition to meeting the major gift goal, incorporate annual fund and planned gift conversations as appropriate.   
    • Determine when the dean should meet with donors and create briefing memos in preparation for those meetings.

       

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:   

     

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. 
    • Minimum of 4-6 years experience in fundraising or related field (e.g. sales), preferably in higher education. 
    • Demonstrated skill to work within a complex environment with strong capabilities in planning, organizing, and managing. 
    • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers in the Office of Institutional Advancement and with internal partners and external volunteers. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. 
    • Flexibility to travel, largely on a regional basis.  Occasional weekend and evening work will be necessary, as well as travel nationally.

    Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university preferred; 2 - 5 years related experience and/or training as a Planner; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  CPIM or CFPIM certifications from the Association for Operations Management (APICS) are highly desirable
