  • Responsibilities

    POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for the management and performance of the Product Development Center (PDC). Primary duties include the management of personnel while meeting schedule, budget, and quality goals of machinery projects.

    PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Champions the safe work environment; provides leadership for safety improvement initiatives, maintain all safety training programs, and ensure timely and accurate completion of all training requirements.
    • Manages all personnel in the PDC. All employees in the PDC report to this position including all machine shop personnel, CNC programmer, buyer, Production Control, Shipping/Receiving and assembly team through the Assembly manager.
    • Controls and communicates overall project schedule for the PDC and has direct responsibility for ensuring project schedules and estimates are met.
    • Administration of material management, machine shop production, and supply for the PDC. Has direct management responsibility for the production control, machine shop and purchasing functions. These responsibilities include adherence to PMD policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Works closely with Crosby Manufacturing, Engineering Management, and the Commercial Team of PMD.
    • Machine Shop Operations, Maintenance, maintain shop and fabrication procedures coordinating with Crosby, MN facility.
    • Establishes performance expectations, with specific goals and objectives, to ensure the managers, supervisors and associates are focused on the issues which will drive overall performance i.e., safety, quality, schedule, and budget.
    • Ensures the resources i.e., managers, supervisors and associates have the necessary tools to do their job
    • Supports and participates in continuous improvement initiatives. Serves as Champion for LEAN and Six Sigma activities.
    • Maintain system for tool calibration for ISO certification.
    • Develop and monitor the performance of the yearly budget.
    • Sets housekeeping expectations to ensure audits are complete & LEAN principles are implemented i.e., 5S.
    • Responsible for ensuring the plant is presentable to outside visitors.

    DESIRED BACKGROUND:

    • Five years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is required with experience in a machine shop required.
    • Minimum requirement is a 2-year technical degree in related field; a 4-year degree is desired or equivalent experience.
    • Ability to manage a machine shop, cost effectively, in a rapid-paced operation.
    • Up-to-date manufacturing practices and methods (CNC, additive manufacturing).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of materials to include metals, plastics, etc.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Clearly and comfortably delegates both routine and important tasks and decisions. Broadly shares both responsibility and accountability.
    • This position requires an individual with strong communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
    • Maintain a high level of situational awareness to anticipate changing needs to our customers along with limited resources.
    • Ability to quickly assess situations and respond appropriately to the situation. Must be able to effectively direct resources.
    • Position requires a high level of emotional maturity. Must be able to maintain composure under intense pressure. Can marshal resources (people, materials, support) to get things done. Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal. Uses resources effectively and efficiently. Keeps information organized.

    EDUCATION:
