    SENIOR MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - WELDING

    SEATING HEADQUARTERS - SOUTHFIELD, MI  

    As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for driving development through production launch of metal seat structures and mechanisms, with a highly specialized focus on welding technologies.

     

    YOUR ROLE

    Your work will include, but not be limited to:

    • Typical processes consist of: stampings, weldments, rivets, fasteners, clinching and various other automated and manual assembly methods and practices.
    • Develop and manage project budgets throughout the life of a program.
    • Prepare quote requests.
    • Evaluate and compare initial source quotes and processes.
    • Manage all aspects of equipment and tool build at external equipment integrators.
    • Maximizes efficiency by analyzing: line layouts, workflow, assembly methods, change-over-fixtures and tooling, gauges, work-in-process (WIP) handling.
    • Main point of contact with production plants throughout the program development and launch.  Responsible for technical support as needed thereafter.
    • Work with Product Engineering to ensure parts and assemblies are designed and toleranced to allow manufacturing best practices to be used.
    • Work with Quality Engineers to Develop Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) requirements such as: Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (PFMEA), Process Flow Charts, and Control Plans.
    • Support Program Management generated macro-schedules with detailed timing, to ensure that all project milestones are tracked and completed on time.
    • Relies on broad depth of knowledge and expertise to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Works under minimal supervision.
    • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required and expected.

     

    YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

    • BS degree in welding, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing is a minimum requirement.
    • 10+ years metals manufacturing experience (GMAW, resistance welding & assembly processes)
    • Understanding of fixture design, part fit up, process parameters, equipment.
    • Ability to understand cut and etch and welding validation requirements.
    • Must be well versed in GD&T and ability to read prints.
    • Possess strong verbal/written communication skills.
    • Must be highly organized.
    • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated and also work well in a team environment.
    • Possess strong leadership skills.
    • Proficient with MS office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.  Project & AutoCAD is a plus.
    • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods within US & Mexico, (2-3) week intervals.

     

    BONUS IF YOU HAVE

    • Experience with automotive companies.
    • Experience with mechanisms or seating.
    • 4+ years Laser welding experience.

    EDUCATION: Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.

    EXPERIENCE: 1 year medical office work related experience preferred. Must be able to read, write, interpret and communicate simple and complex instructions.
