POSITION SUMMARY The Research Associate (RA) I/II, Nonclinical Sciences provides scientific and technical support to scientists in Nonclinical Sciences and research and development project teams. The RA I/II performs in vitro, ex vivo, and/or in vivo nonclinical studies and experiments in the laboratory to support Ultragenyx drug development programs for all phases of development. The RA I/II collaborates closely with internal stakeholders and other scientists in order to design, conduct, interpret, and report studies. The RA I/II prioritizes workflow in alignment with program and project timelines. This position reports into the Pharmacology and Toxicology organization. Responsibilities including but not limited to: Work closely with Pharmacology and Toxicology and Research departments to execute pharmacology and toxicology studies and experiments to rapidly advance the pipeline from preclinical to clinical development and ultimately for filing license applications Design, conduct, analyze/interpret, and report in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo non-GLP nonclinical studies to evaluate efficacy, pharmacodynamics, toxicity, and mechanisms of action of drug candidates, in collaboration with other scientists. Designs and troubleshoots a variety of assays, tests, and studies of a routine nature within well-defined guidelines. Select, optimize, and establish methodologies and techniques Ensure timely and accurate communication of study results and interpretation to scientists, project teams and management Ensure appropriate quality of documentation and record keeping for studies compatible with global regulatory submission requirements. Ensure compliance with study protocols, GLP regulations (as applicable) and department work instructions. Keep abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within area of research Keep meticulous records of experiments and results. Write study reports and associated documents. Deliver high-quality data in a timely manner to facilitate decision-making. Prepare stock chemical solutions, offer solutions, and relevant drug solutions. May participate on departmental or company initiatives Requirements: Depending on job level, BS/MS in a biological science with 2 to 4 years of relevant experience. Experience with common laboratory methods, techniques and assays (e.g. cell culture, western blot, ELISA). Experience with design of experiments, and assay development. Experience with animal welfare and regulatory guidelines. High level of enthusiasm and ability to work in teams, as well as independently.
