    LEAD OPERATOR APPRENTICE – PLASTICS:

    • Starting Wages Begin At $21.62/Hour With Regular Wage Progressions To $22.70/Hour
    • $1500 Retention Bonus for New Hires and Qualifying Rehires
    • $1/Hour Shift Differential for Night Shift
    • No Mandatory Overtime on Scheduled 48 Hour Work Weeks
    • Double Time Hourly Rate for Any Voluntary Overtime Exceeding 48 Hours/Work Week (40-48 Hours Paid Time and A Half)
    • Benefits Start on the 1st of The Month Following Your Start Date
    • 12 Hour shifts (36) and (48) hour weeks (A/B shifts work from 7 am to 7 pm; C/D shifts work from 7 pm to 7 am)

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Set up and maintain equipment used in the manufacture of plastic lids. Duties include start-up and shut down of equipment, troubleshooting, change-over of tooling, and housekeeping.

    WORK DEVICES:

    Hand tools, wrenches, screwdriver, T-handles, hex keys, brooms, power tools, grinders, parts cleaner, grease guns, oil cans, chain hoist, wet/dry vacuum, pallet jacks, KD stamper, mops, waste containers, knives, cases, labels, tape dispensers, gauges, scales, micrometer, hand case sealer, tilt table, banding tool, pneumatic tools, seam clamp lifting tools.

    HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

    • Perform all duties in a safe and orderly manner.
    • Be engaged, involved and current in SWO process; Participate in safety meetings and safety tours.
    • Ensure equipment meets safety standards, monitoring throughout the shift.
    • Observe, mitigate and/or report unsafe acts or conditions.
    • Maintain continuous, safe operation of lid machines, producing quality product at efficient production levels.
    • Complete shut-down and start-up procedures.
    • Produce products consistent with established food safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
    • Set up, adjust, and repair equipment utilizing written standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and trouble cause correction (TCC’s) instructions.
    • Maintain 5S in work area. Maintain a clean machine to avoid malfunctions and hazards.
    • Perform prescribed quality checks. Trouble-shoot quality concerns.
    • Notify supervisor and/or group leader of problems that arise beyond a Lead Operator’s typical scope, i.e., poor product quality, excessive spoilage, mechanical issues, supply shortages and material handling issues.
    • Complete daily paperwork and computer production reports.
    • Once qualified, instruct and train others, including other lead operators and apprentices.
    • Manage workload as necessary to ensure production requirements.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisor, group leader, peers, other employees, and oncoming shift.
    • Actively participate and maintain Work System initiatives.
    • Perform packer and material handler duties, as required; relieve for breaks and lunches; Assist in other areas, as needed.
    • Fulfill overtime requirements.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    Basic mechanical background and skill level to perform technical tasks:

    • Familiar with and able to use hand and power tools properly and safely (reference “Work Devices” section of this job posting)
    • Familiar with mechanical components and equipment
    • Basic troubleshooting skills

    General computer experience.

    Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills; Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel, individually or in a team environment; Must be able to interface and communicate with others to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.

    Demonstrated organizational skills and detail orientation.

    Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

    Able to take direction from others, and to follow verbal or written instructions.

    Able to work well on own, as well as work well with and through others to accomplish goals.

    Able to work overtime, and to work on alternate shifts to facilitate training and to cover the opposite shift.

    Able to train on a day shift 8-hour schedule Monday-Friday (7:00 A.M.–3:30 P.M.) for up to 30 days, if necessary. (Majority of training will occur on shift).

    Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without accommodation. This includes walking or standing for extended periods of time, up to 12-hours; Lifting to 50lbs; Carrying to 30 lbs.; Lowering to 30 lbs. from a height of 4 feet; Visual acuity and depth perception; Working in various temperatures & humidity levels.

    ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION – APPRENTICE:

    • Once a Lead Operator vacancy occurs, and after shift preferences awarded, the employee with the most time served as an Apprentice must take that vacancy. They will continue with the apprentice qualification timeline until qualified.
    • Apprentices may be scheduled to work other shifts as business conditions require.
    • Apprentice training may on a day shift 8-hour schedule Monday-Friday (7:00 A.M.–3:30 P.M.) for up to 30 days, if necessary. (Majority of training will occur on shift).

  • Qualifications
    1. Minimum Education: Associates Degree in Finance or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    2. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
    3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
    4. Ability to effectively present information to Credit Managers and Directors of Credit as needed.
    5. Ability to write reports, memos, and correspondence.
    6. Ability to supervise work of piers, give positive feedback and mentoring.
    7. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    8. Ability to utilize Excel in interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    9. NACM Certification CBA or CBF preferred but not required.
    10. Requires use of tact to avoid unnecessary conflict in carrying out assignments, as well as exercising continuous judgment.
    11. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email software.
