Materials Engineering Intern
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Must be a third-year student (junior standing) at Virginia Tech or the University of Virginia to be eligible for this internship.
We are excited to continue the partnership with both Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia for our annual internship program. Since 2011, we have provided students value-add internships exploring the engineering functions with our businesses.
We are looking for talented engineers to join us for an exciting and value-add 12-week summer internship. Our goal is to provide a breadth of exposure to the technical aspects of Materials Engineering and to a variety of people networks to help you maximize an exciting and purposeful learning and developmental experience. This placement will be within our Materials Engineering organization.
Who we are:
The Materials organization is an engineering function within the Rolls-Royce Aerospace business. The function supports all our engine products from research and technology, original design, manufacturing, and aftermarket support.
Within Materials Engineering, we are divided into the following sub-departments: External Laboratories, Materials Technology, Repair and Design Technology, Electronics, Applications Specifications and Data, Failure Investigation, Internal Laboratories and Non-Destructive Evaluation. Each sub-department works closely together across the function to ensure customer needs are met and satisfied.
What you’ll do:
Our interns will work with other materials engineers to apply materials engineering knowledge to a develop, manufacture and support in service advanced state-of-the-art gas turbine engines and will develop an understanding of materials and materials processing vital to these systems.

Ideal candidates will have strong demonstrations of interpersonal skills, curiosity, problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

Candidates will be expected to:

Relevant Majors:
Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Engineering major with a focus in Materials.
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Work Authorization Eligibility: US Citizen
This internship is employed by the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech through an endowment grant given to the selected students. All communications surrounding pay and auxiliary benefits will be presented at time of offer from each university.
