    Research Scientist I - Cell Biology / Neuroscience Biology (SD) San Diego, CA Full-Time Job Description - Vertex Pharmaceuticals is looking for an outstanding Cell Biologist to join our drug discovery team in San Diego. This position will focus on developing novel translational human in vitro models of genetic neurological diseases. The successful candidate should have a strong scientific background and proven record of accomplishments in the areas of neurological diseases and adult neuro stem cell biology. The applicant will be part of a fast-paced drug discovery team that includes cell biologists, molecular biologists, pharmacologists, and engineers. In addition, the position will closely interact with an Instrumentation and Biophysics group with capabilities in micro-fabrication, microfluidics and biomaterial scaffolds. - Minimum Qualifications - Ph.D. in neuroscience, cell biology or related area, and minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral experience - Proven track record of independent scientific accomplishments - Experience in developing complex in vitro disease models of neurological diseases - Enjoys hands on work developing cell based assays using primary human cells and stem cell derived neurons - Exceptional multitasking skills, attention to details and ability to work independently are required - Results orientated, driven, motivated, and well organized - Ability to work as a part of a team in matrix organization - Effective communication skills, both verbal and written - Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly-matrixed work environmentPreferred Qualifications: - Experience in studying pain and working with human DRGs - Experience in neurogenesis in adult human brain - Basic understanding of drug discovery process is preferred - A desire to be part of a highly innovative company aimed at transforming the lives of people with serious diseases, their families and society Company Information Vertex is a global biotechnology company that invests in scientific innovation to create transformative medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases.
