    Research Scientist Structural Biology & Biophysics (BOS) Boston, MA Full-Time Job Description Vertex is seeking a highly motivated and inventive scientist with a passion to apply biophysical techniques to drug discovery. We are looking for someone with a proven track record in biochemical and biophysical research including protein purification and expression, development of functional assays and structural studies. You will work within a team of biochemists, biophysicists and structural biologists, with these teams you will design and execute elaborate experiments for major research projects. Key Responsibilities: - Expression and purification of challenging biochemical drug targets - Designs and performs advanced, complex biochemical and biophysical experiments - Independently analyzes data to distill conclusions and set new experimental directions - Troubleshoots and optimizes experiments - Innovates on research methodology to a high degree, in order to address more important questions - Demonstrates resourcefulness in running multiple activities concurrently, all related to achievement of goals/objectives - Adapts to new projects rapidly and to multiple projects effectively - Is up to date with the scientific literature in the field and beyond - Actively participates in discussions in biochemistry team meetings - Presents results to biochemistry and project teams#LI-BS1 Minimum Qualifications - PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics or relevant field with 2-5 years post-degree experience - Experience in protein expression from multiple organisms (mammalian, insect, bacterial, etc.) - Track record of protein purification of targets including membrane proteins - Previous use of manual and automated chromatography systems - Use of biochemical techniques (e.g. Western blot, SDS-PAGE, etc.) - Familiarity with biophysical techniques to assess interactions among proteins, nucleic acids and small-molecule ligands an asset (e.g. SPR, MST, ITC, etc.) - Track record of productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record - Ability to communicate effectively with his/her supervisor - Self-motivation, organization, effective communication and presentation skills - Ability to navigate a dynamic work environment - A dream to be part of a highly innovative company aimed at transforming the lives of people with serious diseases, their families and society Company Information Vertex is a global biotechnology company that invests in scientific innovation to create transformative medicines for people with serious and life-threatening diseases.
