QSE, Professional - Dallas TX **Vestas American Wind Technology has an
opening for a Quality, Safety, and Environmental Professional for its
Service Operations Business. The QSE Professional is part of a regional
QSE team focused on providing quality, safety, and environmental
leadership to the Service Business Unit responsible for the safe
operation of wind turbines across the region.** ** Position Title:**
Quality, Safety, Environmental Professional Organization: Vestas
Americas (VAME) Quality, Safety, Environmental Department (QSE)
Description: In this position you will implement, oversee, and adapt
culture, policies, and programs, to improve Vestas Quality, Safety, and
Environmental performance, while ensuring compliance with current and
future regulations/standards, and maintaining our corporate values of
Accountability, Collaboration, and Simplicity. You will provide
leadership, strategic direction, and technical support around the
implementation of QSE programs and processes for the Vestas Service
Business, while ensuring the safety of our employees/contractors,
minimizing our environmental footprint, and ensuring the quality of our
products and services. Quality, Safety, Environmental Professional
Requirements * Reduce Injuries and Illnesses by driving safety
culture maturity to obtain a Zero Incident Safety Culture. * Develop and
execute QSE objectives within region of responsibility. * Establish and
maintain working relationships with Service Business Managers by site
visits, conducting regular update meetings, participating in safety
walks, and interacting with Vestas Service Technicians at the wind
farms. * Establish Injury and Illness prevention methods specifically in
soft tissue injuries, and behavioral-based safety. * Develop and
facilitate sub-regional forums for knowledge and sharing of best
practices along with general integration of QSE programs across the area
including integration of Corporate, Group, and Regional QSE initiatives
- Ensure compliance to ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 9001 within
region, including ownership of Vestas audit protocols (internal and
external) * Support Service Business Management in the execution of QSE
items at all operating facilities in region. * Direct and monitor the
QSE start-up/transition activities on new or expanding Vestas locations.
These activities include: meeting with customers QSE team, site hazard
assessments, development and initial review of the QSE site specific
material, providing structure to the orientation of new employees, and
the development of an action plan with timeframes to fully implement the
site specific QSE requirements in partnership with line management.
Monitors progress on completion of the action plan, and reports to
Service Operations Manager. * Establishes and maintains relationships
with customers and governmental authorities on matters of mutual concern
including voluntary certification (e.g., ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
registration, VPP), submission of required reports, and maintenance of
data. * Build organization capability by providing QSE training and
development of QSE professionals/coordinators to ensure each site within
the sub-region has the appropriate technical and functional
competencies. * Supports the investigation process of incidents
(including near misses, releases, and losses) and accidents to determine
root causes and prepares/directs corrective and preventive action plans.
Identify and determine correction action for systemic QSE issues within
the region of responsibility. * Oversees the management of work-related
injuries and return to work activities within region. * Support regional
subcontractors through the Vestas Prequalification Process (Meercat)
ensuring quality, safety, and environmental standards are met prior to
the performance of work. * Maintain current knowledge of QSE industry
best practices and technological developments and equipment to remain
up-to-date on related systems, devices and techniques designed to
eliminate or minimize associated risks. Keeps current on regulatory
requirements pertaining to QSE for assigned Countries, Provinces,
Territories and States. * Provide support and oversight to safety
training programs. Training may include strategies and goals to
develop/improve safety culture, QSE technical programs/policies, injury
trend data, QSE/regulatory information pertinent to the jurisdiction,
workers' compensation/injury case management, and basic knowledge
related to safe operation of Vestas Wind Turbines, etc. * Extensive
travel within region is expected with occasional travel to other parts
of the USA and Canada. * High travel position Minimum 60% - 70%. This
position requires person to live within 1 hour of International Airport.
Greater distance will require consideration for relocation.
**Qualifications ** * Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management,
Industrial Health and Safety, or related equivalent with a minimum of
one to five years work experience in General Industry, Industrial,
and/or Construction environmental, health, and safety. * Masters and/or
advanced degree or certification (CSP/ASP/CRSP/GSP) strongly preferred.
- Experience in leading cultural change and behavior based safety
programs, as well as QSE programs and policies across multiple
jurisdictions (e.g., countries, geographies and cultures). * Experience
in applying international QSE standards (ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OSHAS
- across business units and geographies. * Experience with cranes,
lifting and rigging, safety management systems, control of hazardous
energy, confined space requirements, work at heights and soft tissue
injury prevention desired. * Must be authorized to work in the Canada
without company sponsorship (Canada Roles) * Must be capable of working
with little supervision, and at times in a remote setting. * Ability to
occasionally climb stairs and ladders 60-125 meters in height. * Ability
to occasionally lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight. *
Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally grip and manually manipulate, often with
repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools,
turbine parts. * Comfort entering into confined spaces and at heights
over 100 meters. * Ability to successfully participate in all training
courses, including controlled decent. * Regular walking. * Ability to
hear and use close range radios. * Strong field of vision including
visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors. * Able to
work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
**Competencies ** * Accountability - will need to act as mentor/coach,
as well as technical expert and drive line managers to true root causes
of incidents, ensuring transparency during investigations, and trending
review. Strong organizational skills including ability to manage large
number of disparate projects and to track projects through completion. *
Simplicity - must be able to interpret regulations and company policy
and deliver meaningful reasoning and education in support of
regulations, along with the creation of regional specific campaigns that
foster ownership of Vestas QSE by everyone. * Collaboration - Ability to
work with multiple levels of the organization including front line
workforce, managers, directors, and support departments towards creating
a Zero Incident Safety Culture. * Working knowledge of cross-functional
QSE disciplines * Ability to demonstrate managerial courage (e.g.,
managing varied interests representing potential conflicts in a remote
setting). * Computer skills necessary include Microsoft Word,
PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Note, Communicator, SharePoint, and basic
skills in SAP. * Other high competencies (Behavioral and Functional)
include: Ability to audit, manage global and local standards, have basic
knowledge of manufacturing and system function, product knowledge, risk
assessment processes, risk management, root cause analysis, continuous
improvement, customer satisfaction, be diplomatic, take initiative,
