    Job Description

    Position Summary

    The Vice President of Product Management is a highly visible and impactful leadership role responsible for defining and driving the end-to-end product strategy across Western Digital’s entire HDD portfolio, spanning consumer, OEM, and hyperscale cloud markets globally.

    This leader operates with extreme ownership across the business, translating market dynamics, customer needs, and technology innovation into a cohesive, executable product vision and roadmap that serves as the company’s blueprint for execution.

    The role requires a unique blend of strategic leadership, technical depth, and strong commercial acumen. The Vice President will lead a global product management organization and partner closely across Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Executive Leadership to deliver meaningful business results, drive growth, and maximize enterprise value.

    Key Responsibilities

    Enterprise Product Strategy & Roadmap Leadership

    · Define and own a multi-year product vision and strategy across Western Digital’s full HDD portfolio, aligned with corporate priorities and market opportunities.
    · Develop and drive a comprehensive, innovative product roadmap that serves as the enterprise-wide execution blueprint.
    · Translate technology trends (AI workloads, hyperscale infrastructure, data growth) into differentiated product strategies and platform investments.
    · Partner closely with Engineering and R&D to align technology development with product and market requirements.
    · Identify and evaluate strategic opportunities including partnerships, ecosystem development, and M&A.

    Business Ownership & Financial Leadership

    · Drive strong business outcomes through ownership of portfolio performance, including revenue growth, profitability, and market share.
    · Lead rigorous business planning, including TAM/SAM analysis, product investment cases, and long-range planning.
    · Ensure financial discipline across the portfolio, balancing growth, cost efficiency, and return on investment.
    · Partner with Finance to build robust forecasting models and scenario planning to guide decision-making.

    Market Leadership, Positioning & Storytelling

    · Serve as the voice of the customer and market, maintaining deep engagement with hyperscalers, OEMs, enterprise customers, and channel partners.
    · Translate market insights into clear product positioning, segmentation, and go-to-market strategies.
    · Lead development of compelling product narratives, executive-level presentations, and marketing collateral.
    · Act as a key spokesperson for the portfolio with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders, including CEO and Executive Leadership Team.

    Pricing, Value Capture & Portfolio Optimization

    · Define and execute pricing strategies that maximize value capture across segments and customers.
    · Drive segmentation strategies that align product offerings with customer needs and willingness to pay.
    · Continuously optimize the portfolio to improve margins, reduce cost, and enhance competitive positioning.
    · Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to drive cost efficiencies and scalable execution.

    Product Lifecycle Management & Execution Discipline

    · Oversee end-to-end product lifecycle management from concept through end-of-life.
    · Establish and enforce structured processes for product planning, prioritization, and execution.
    · Ensure alignment across cross-functional teams to deliver products on time, at cost, and with high quality.
    · Balance innovation with operational excellence and scalability.

    Organizational & Cross-Functional Leadership

    · Build, lead, and develop a high-performing global product management organization.
    · Lead through influence in a highly matrixed environment, aligning stakeholders across Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Operations.
    · Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, and results orientation.
    · Develop strong talent pipelines, succession plans, and leadership capabilities within the organization.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    · Progressive leadership experience in product management within storage, semiconductor, or related technology industries.
    · Demonstrated success leading large-scale, global product portfolios with significant revenue responsibility.
    · Strong track record of defining product strategy and delivering measurable business results.
    · Deep technical understanding of storage systems, data infrastructure, and related technologies.
    · Strong financial acumen with experience in business planning, pricing strategy, and portfolio management.
    · Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, including executive leadership and customers.
    · Proven ability to operate effectively in a highly cross-functional, matrixed organization.

    Education

    · Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline required.
    · MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.

    • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.

    • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.

    • If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.

    • You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either WD’s Short Term Incentive Plan (“STI Plan”) or the Sales Incentive Plan (“SIP”) which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance, depending on your role and your performance.
