Opportunity, community and unity is our way of doing business. We call it The Vulcan Way. **POSITION SUMMARY ** **** **** JOB DUTIES: This is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week summerinternship. Due to the nature of worked performed; the physical requirements ofthe job may vary significantly from day to day depending on each daysassignment. Performs any combination of following tasks in and about surfacemine, pit or using hand tools: The student operates, inspects, and maintains amaterials handling system conveyor system. The student checks fluid levels andthe condition of the conveyor motors at the beginning of each shift. Starts-upthe conveyor system and shuts it down, if a problem occurs. Cleans andlubricate the conveyor system throughout the shift to prevent breakdowns. Thestudent cleans and performs minor routine adjustments as instructed by his/hermentor. Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and workareas. Keeps working areas clean by shoveling muck, sand gravel or rock asideor onto conveyors. The intern shovels and sweeps spilled material from theassigned areas, including stairways, walkways, corridors, and areas underneaththe conveyor. The intern might trims protrusions from walls and passageways.Student strips (cleans) residue of rock and dirt from exposed or rockformations. Loads, separates, or sorts materials at working face, using shovelor wheelbarrow. Lifts, carries, and holds building materials, tools, andsupplies. The intern along with a mentor will be exposed tocontrolling the quality of the product by visually inspecting the materialbeing conveyed, ensuring that it is free of oversized and foreign material,such as large rocks, wood, broken asphalt and concrete, and any other materialswhich can cause damage to the processing plant, i.e. metal. Verifies amount ofaggregate in storage bins by visual inspection. The duties listed above are intended only asillustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The goal ofthis position is to expose the student to real working conditions of a mine. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE **** High School diploma and currently enrolled in auniversity pursuing a degree in mining or related field.
