    Job Description

    As a Firmware Validation Engineer, you will play a vital role in our dynamic team, responsible for designing, developing, and supporting new or existing HDD Firmware validations. Your key responsibilities will include:

    Design and Develop : You will have the chance to create and implement test cases for firmware features being developed, contributing to the advancement of our products.

    Innovate and Collaborate : Joining forces with internal and cross-functional teams, you'll bring your fresh perspective to derive innovative and high-quality firmware validations.

    Tool Development : Be part of exciting projects where you'll design and implement tools to improve Firmware debug/test capabilities and analytics.

    Documentation and Communication : Your findings will be instrumental in driving the development process. Documenting your observations in the bug tracking system and creating engaging slides for communication on validation findings will be part of your role.

    Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer engineering, or a related field

    Location : We are seeking candidates local to the Irvine area, offering you the chance to work in a vibrant tech community.

    Technical Skills : Familiarity with Windows and Linux environments is essential. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, shell, etc., is highly desirable. Any experience with C/C++, Java, or other programming languages is a plus.

    Knowledge : While previous work experience is not required, familiarity with computer systems (e.g., BIOS, network, SATA, etc.) will be beneficial.

    Compensation & Benefits Details

    • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
    • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
    • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
